Went in to the garage to fire beastie up an hour or so ago (first time in about four weeks) and the battery was a trifle low so I stuck the charger on for an hour... (she burst savagely into life afterwards)... Whilst sitting in the suicide seat I looked at the mileage, and it came as a bit of a shock how few miles I've done in recent months... in fact in over a year frown

She had 31.5k on the clock when we got married in December 2010... fast forward to May 2015 (MOT time) and I'd only put 3,200 miles on her in the previous year, after averaging pretty much 5k a year in the previous 3 years..

Then, May 2015 to May 2016 I notched up a staggering 1,847 miles frown

We're now at 52,332 miles, that's 20,842 miles in six years, an average of 3,474 p.a.....

As if that wasn't bad enough, from May 2016 to now (20 minutes ago in fact), near enough eight full months, I'm gobsmacked to find we've driven a total of...... 837 miles getmecoat

Anyone else found their average mileage has dropped over the last two or three years?

Sincerely yours, a very despondent Chilli and a much under used beastie

Had mine for just over two years. First year 3010 miles and last year 2000. I did remark to her indoors last year that I was surprised how few miles I had actually done. Admittedly I do go out on the bike some evenings and weekends and green laning in my 4x4, so its not surprising. This year could be better as I am giving up work around April/May so I will have loads of leisure time. smile

Nice thread smile
Thing is most of us are fixing them half the year!
I've driven mine every year I've owned it 5 years and running very happily but it's also spent months at a time being fixed or upgraded.
The weather also has quite a baring,,,
Iive managed just under 30,000 miles in five years almost to the month.
6000 per annum
Not bad considering it's spent three occasions off the road for more than two months, one occasion over 3 frown

Don't feel bad Richard, most don't get near the mileage you've clocked up wink

Good work Pupp biggrin

I'd also noticed my mileage dropping because I did have 7,500 limited mileage but last year dropped it to 5k for the current policy which was end of June.

I've not fallen out of love,Odometer works perfectly(No sticking at the cross over period) and still do a few long trips.

Can't explain it scratchchin

1st year 7,317
2nd year 5,236
3rd year 4,304

And since June 30th only 1,416... I did loose a month having outriggers done but it's still not a lot is it confused

Between 2015 & 2016 - 164 miles
2014 & 2015 - 582 miles
2013 & 2014 - 230 miles

I have haven't got all of the paperwork to hand, but I estimate I have done around 15k since March 2002.

For me, it's about total mileage and relative %.

6 or 7 years ago, it was just under10,000 miles pa. 5k in the blue Chim, 3k in the Stag, a few hundred in the daily driver and similar in MrsBs Mini.

In the last couple of years, it's been 2-4,000 miles total due to spending most of my life in town (London) and the ridiculous planning laws that allow every local area of more than a few square metres to be converted to flats or executive studios with the corresponding increase in traffic and the inability to clock up miles around the south east at any reasonable hour of the Day!

Lol I prefer to use the term fettling. Very true though.

I do around 5k a year in mine. About 2k of that is probably to and from the TVR specialist ;-)

Your right because in most cases it is fettling and it's also a choice,,, a nice choice if you have a massive fking garage,, not jeolous or anything hehe

I came to Tvr with the notion I'd drive it as much as possible and put lots of mileage on it, which is a contradiction in terms,,,
It always thrills me when I see it's been done by other people with many more years experience and showing it's possible.

Most Tvr dealers would point out it's a summer car, that's the leaks covered then!!
It is a summer car, I just wonder out of the thousands of TVR out there how many are being used properly through winter,,, very few if the owners have any marbles. smile
I drive mine all year round !
I think the mileage drops the more you spend on fettling (tuning) them, the better they become the more you want to preserve all the hard work.

More and more I'm contemplating the body off, I'll drive it less afterwards that's a fact, but it will be a better car and more satisfying to own and drive afterwards. smile

bought mine May 2012, 67k on the clock, limited mileage policy, which I had to renew in Feb as I ran out of miles.
Changed the engine March/April 2013 at 73,000.
April 2014 I think it was about 80,000.
April 2015 it was up to 93000, as I had a fun year in the car 2014.
April 16 it was 97000, but the weather during that 12 months was generally ste.
Now 100,000.

But it is merely a fun car, I have other cars for daily use.

I think it is a case of whatever floats your boat, we all get different enjoyment out of TVRs. Some like driving them all year round, some like polishing them, some like modding them, some like tracking them etc etc.

The paint on mine is not particularly great now as I do drive it all year round. I don't really want to get it resprayed as I know I won't want to drive it in the winter anymore. If I had a garage I think I would probably use it far less, the fact it sits on the driveway means it is already dirty and all I have to do is grab the keys and drive off rather than faff around getting it out the garage.

I don't think it is a clear cut case of if it does not do many miles then it is not justified keeping it as people do get enjoyment out of fettling polishing or even just knowing they own one tucked away in the garage.

Well said Matthew.

I too am facing the respray dilemma this Spring - do I pay £5500 (including faired-in light conversion) for a full colour change respray by a reputable paint shop, and then dread driving it in traffic or parking it in a car park, or about £1200 for a (hopefully better this time) Plastidip type temp job. Not decided yet.

I have admired Andav's car from afar, it's how I want mine to look, but even he said "don't go for a full respray if you are using it regularly", before showing me his paint-chipped bonnet. Strangely (though you would know this Matthew), the race track is the one place you don't pick up stone chips.

It is indeed a dilemma. So far I have just gone for the option of repairing the panels that need attention, the issue is with that is the car looks great for a distance but close up looks tatty. I too am considering just getting the front sprayed with 7" light conversion vs the whole car. Every panel has either scratches, cracks or microblistering so it does need a full respray really. Same issue here is that I know if I get it resprayed I will be worried about it all the time, it is very liberating at the moment as it really does not concern me where I leave it or where I drive it as it is already in poor condition anyway.

Agreed on the track, everyone says don't track you car as you will get stone chips, quite the opposite I have never had a stone chip from a track day. Airfield days and sprint courses however are a completely different story!

One thing for sure your car will look stunning with a full respray and faired-in light conversion in combination with the other bits you have done. Will it make you make you think twice about how you use the car - probably, but to what extent is the question.
