It is indeed a dilemma. So far I have just gone for the option of repairing the panels that need attention, the issue is with that is the car looks great for a distance but close up looks tatty. I too am considering just getting the front sprayed with 7" light conversion vs the whole car. Every panel has either scratches, cracks or microblistering so it does need a full respray really. Same issue here is that I know if I get it resprayed I will be worried about it all the time, it is very liberating at the moment as it really does not concern me where I leave it or where I drive it as it is already in poor condition anyway.

Agreed on the track, everyone says don't track you car as you will get stone chips, quite the opposite I have never had a stone chip from a track day. Airfield days and sprint courses however are a completely different story!

One thing for sure your car will look stunning with a full respray and faired-in light conversion in combination with the other bits you have done. Will it make you make you think twice about how you use the car - probably, but to what extent is the question.
Just imagine how I feel when overtaking on track, it's an expensive business and quite frankly a pain most the time because it can only ever get chipped or marked again. BUT it looks stunning when clean, makes it look brand new and if it's done properly very hard wearing.

After a few years you stop fretting over the damn stuff and just enjoy its shine so if it needs doing get it done or as a Matthew rather wisely says, scuffed up a bit they have character and you don't worry so much. Swings and roundabouts but it is very rewarding when the paint looks good

anthony have you thought of going down the wrapping route the ginette was under 1500 quid with quite a lot of colour and design

john
I need to research that more. I would want the fiddly bits like door jambs etc doing, not just the outside. That will also abe an issue with plastidip.
There's a good Facebook group where I live called "Lincs Driver". The JDM crowd in there will know where to go to.

Last 12 months have done 1,879 miles. Now on 53,120 miles.
Looking up the MOT history website - https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ - the car has done 8,038 miles since April 2006.

In nine years and eight months I have averaged 2479 miles per year which surprised me I thought it would have been a lot less, some years were only few hundred that was when she wasn't working or handling very well, since those problems were sorted and we started using the car for touring that has bumped the average up.

Bought the car in November 2012 with 30300 on the clock, now showing 41000, so more or less 2500/year and 1000 of that is going to LeMans each year

Wife's nephew bought a Focus a couple of years ago, was living in London and was proud to let it be known that he covered so little miles in a year that he was still on the same tank of fuel!

He is an accountant and knows eff all about cars and anything mechanical, plays piano beautifully though!

Personally I've covered 13k in 3 years, amazing considering it's time off the road smile

So that's 13K @ average 15mpg = .................................blimey!

Have 5000 limited miles per year on insurance and do this every year for the last 10 years. The Insurance and MOT comes up during Feb and use the winter months to get the agreed miles on the nose.

After the MOT in 2016 was off the road for 6 weeks, fitted Mk 3 lights and mirrors, a complete body repaint in original colour and new hood. The car looked fine from across the street, but was starting to look quite doggy up close. Still did the 5000 miles as I like to get my monies worth

This years project after MOT time is new carpets, rubbers and dash so should be looking mint for this New TVR launch year.

These cars are made to be out and about, and love the positive reaction it gets - it just makes most people smile and seems to change their mood.

Good luck everyone this year in enjoying your cars, either polishing, modding or best of all - driving

Just worked out what I spent on fuel very approximately over the last 46 years. At today's money, in between about £140-£150,000!

Oh well, you can't take it with you wink

I too am facing the respray dilemma this Spring - do I pay £5500 (including faired-in light conversion) for a full colour change respray by a reputable paint shop, and then dread driving it in traffic or parking it in a car park, or about £1200 for a (hopefully better this time) Plastidip type temp job. Not decided yet.
Exactly the situation I am in and having the same thoughts. I'm 90% sure I'll have a go at doing it myself. Prep it, then hire a paint booth and oven for a weekend. I've always wanted to learn how to spray, the same way I wanted to weld and rebuild a V8.

Have you decided what colour you're going for Anthony?

Now researching wraps as an alternative. Mat Smith has his race car wrapped, and the lads on FB Lincs Driver are pointing me in the right direction locally

Wont it scratch up and look dull over a few years then your back to square one.
Paint it Anthony and enjoy it for years to come yes

There's my dilemma, Alun.

If I spend all that money painting it I will have to build it a garage.

And I won't want to take it to Asda and park it anywhere near any other car in case someone opens a door into it.
I won't want to drive it anywhere rural in case of stone chips from passing cars.
I won't want to take it on dual carnageways in case of flying stones from HGVs.

And we haven't even started on it being near my stone-throwing, bike-wheeling, football kicking grand children.

In fact, the only place I will want to take it is the race track, as you don't get any of that rubbish on track days.

At least with a wrap a front end "respray" is a couple of hundred quid.
And a colour change is only just over a grand.

As I was admiring his car, Dave Ancill warned me not to paint it while I was enjoying using it so much. And I think he had a point.

My overriding thought (which I know is flawed) when reading this thread is that you cannot really like your cars if you spend so little time in them. Buy me a nice car and I'll never be out of it!

I did 30,000 per year between 1996 & 2003 (inclusive)

That's about a quarter of a million.

Done maybe 50,00 since
