HI
What are the pros and cons of the different type of suspension bushes, i would like to replace mine but have no experience of the subject, i just want them for road use, preferably easy to fit.
Also similar advice required for track rod ends, ball joints and ARB drop links.
Thanks
Paul

The standard bushes are of a metalastic construction, ( metal outer sleeve rubber and inner metal bush) as per most production cars.
They offer some absorbance from the road but do flex so not do good for high speed.
Poly and or a more solid bush will feel firmer and more accurate at high speed but will be harsher at slow speeds and over bumps
The poly bushes are easier to remove and replace.
Metalastic should last longer.
Track rid ends are standard parts as are ball joints. ARB drop links,,, now there's a debate.
I have racetec ones and there very good. Others have used Ford itemsetc google it send many old threads should come up.
Recently Chimpongas had good success with a combination of drop links look for his links if you fancy saving money. smile

This is the thread all about drop links. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The original bushes as Al says are metalastic so you will need a press to push them out (or burn/cut/grind). Due to the shape of the suspension arms you cannot press them all out without a special mounting frame for your press.
You can buy ready made kits of poly bushes from TVR parts suppliers such as TVR Parts and Racetech etc. The advantage of the poly bushes is you simply push them into the suspension arms with your fingers - no tools needed. Most come with a lifetime guarantee.

Hi
Thanks for the thread, so thats drop links and track rod ends, but where do i look for original type bushes and what they might cost, i see the kits for the poly ones, very surprised for a lump of plastic / rubber, i hope to be able to access a press to be able to fit the new bushes, its getting them out i dont like the look of.
Just one question on refitting, the centre metal section of some of my bushes is not central in the housing, is that normal?

Tvr parts do both types..

I'm guessing that on your ones the central metal bits are all coming out towards the rear of your car? Thats because they're old and worn and have been pushed back under braking smile

I needed an 80 tonne press to get some of my old bushes out and they weren't much easier to get in, I've managed some at home before using a very big vice as a press. It's a lot easier to fit polybushes, I'd suggest removing your old bushes before deciding what type to buy.

I'd give Superflex a call, failing that Powerflex if your pockets are a bit deeper, both come highly recommended.
