I once ended upside down inside a cart,,,,,, on top of someone else in a cart trying to go around a corner biglaugh

Banging helmets with me screaming "put the fking brakes on then"

,,,, But it was all his fault, I'd got up the inside and he tried to close me off into a tyre wall,,, my front wheel clipped and rode up the tyre wall and I was doing a 180 degree flip in the air before I knew it.

Good memories now,,,, I nearly had the bd for that at the time though.
Oh to be young... what's it like Matthew hehe

You take no notice Alun, this is more from your era thumbuphehe

He's borrowed my bike,,, that's two front tyre's ain't it!!!

Brave bds only apply smile

Truth is I wasn't that good, fast yes, I got a lot of good grasstrackers helping me back then so the bike was prepared and geared well even though it was way old even then.
I never won a senior meeting but got really close a few times. I was on course to win a junior meeting ( under 21 ) and no final wins,,, til I snapped the frame!
Give me a smooth track and I was really on it. smile I rode bikes from a very young age and came from a sporting family so I knew what I was doing,,, most the time hehe

I've totally thrown this thread.
I'd rather you lot take the piss
,,, I'm regaining my love of banter so as I'm the only one with a proper Tvr, use it every day and I have many bells and whistles on it, your jealousy is palpable
Carry on fella's thumbup
I started young on the bikes at 13 hehe, but thats another story.
My mates dad did speedway and was fairly good and enjoyed watching it thumbup.
Like you say its all about the banter these days and not taking life to seriously nono, if i was retired tink my TVR would be my daily wink

My Grandfather on my Mothers side was of Scottish decent, his great great grandfather (might be only one great) having been sent to Australia circa 1805 for breaking into a 'dwelling house' in Glasgow... My Grandfather, Bruce StClair McCallum, came over in the 1930's from Aus as part of their Speedway team, which toured the UK... He met my Grandmother and they had a daughter (my Mum), but sadly he had a bad accident on the track which damaged his chest, and he died some months later as a result of the injuries... My Mum never knew him, but a few years ago we tracked down relations in Australia my Mum never knew she had....

Anyway, this is the only photograph I have of him, which I'm guessing is from the same or near era as the one above (which is what prompted me to post this..) I think he was about 23 when he died...

I'm a member of an old time grasstrack, and speedway forum that has pics like this all the time Richard. Are you on Facebook,, maybe you could friend me ( bit strong :hehe) and post me this pic, I'll ask and some anorak will come back with info if we're lucky smile

What a wonderful but sad story,, racers came and went at a rate of knots.
Speedway was a massive sport back then, he'd have been riding with thousands watching.
Aussies do long track so there fast as anyone.
Great riders and a connection because I was Nigel Boocock sons best friend when we were very young and I used to go to Speedway with the family.
His son died on a bike,,, but last year I connected up with his daughter who now lives back on Oz.

Even now,,, Speedway is the most watched form of motorsport in the UK.

Try riding a brutal unforgiving bike around a small track with a wall all around you and in a stadium,, the noise and sense of speed and power Let alone fear for your life is the ultimate ride /drive. Lying a bike over and hitting the throttle with a wall coming at you way before the corner takes some balls,,, once you get the hang of it,,, your Granddad did an amazing thing and felt things few feel.

Glorious Richard.
I've written your Gramps brilliant name down so I'll get onto the freaks that know every rider since the dawn of time and see what comes up. thumbup
