I agree it's a nice colour but at that price it needs to be more or less perfect. Whilst I am looking at the top end of the market I do look at this as an investment as I plan to keep it for some time and resprays put me off a little.

Which county do you live? White or red rose, or are you north east somewhere?

Agreed. Picture 5 makes it look like the paint job wasn't particularly comprehensive.

What a strange thing to miss, unless it's not the paint but something to make the roof seal better?

Looking through the classifieds, there seems to be quite a few good cars considering your budget. I'd be very tempted by this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t... but it may well not be to your taste.

You can also see red paint in picture number 5 bottom right hand corner, which is where the door seal and kick plate come together if im not mistaken

It's where all the northern premier footballers live?

Cobham in Surrey is made up of half the Chelsea football team and their servantslaugh

FFS just spent twenty minutes writing the ultimate buying a Chimaera guide with loads of accurate useful advice, insightful observations, can't live without help, and massive money saving anecdotes... then pressed the wrong button and lost the fu**ing lot furious

Jesus H it was near Nobel quality grade journalism FFS....

Why me God, why me?????

FFS Mac what are you thinking bloke, worth much, much more than that. I turned down a fairly certain offer on mine of £25k, and mine needs a retrim, repaint etc. etc. to get it anywhere near yours and mines done 76,000 miles !!!!!!

£25k!! For that money I'd need to inspect and see what has been done and confirm whether it has been done well. Saw red paint in one of the photos which suggests poor respray detailing. Unless I am being a numptie there seems to be no details (on the advert posted) on what works have been done. If it were me I'd rather spend £10 - 15k on a 50k miles 450 (the 500 engine is good but not deemed to be as strong as the 450 as it is cross-braced) and spend up to £25k (if that is your budget) on making it yours and making sure that the works are done well. The chassis refurb needs a body off to be done properly and fully. Perhaps that is not what has been done here.

You can get a better car for cheaper but it will require some attention from you. If you want out of the box driving then do a deal with them but get everything checked carefully beforehand by an expert surveyor (is Rob Ingleby still working in this field anyone?). Aologies if I have repeated previous comments or observations. Not read the full thread.

JM

Edited to say...yes, Rob is still out there...his webbie is here.... http://www.findasportscar.co.uk/ get him to check it out. He did a great job for me.

OP, if you have c£25K to spend on a Chimaera you could do a lot worse than chat to Adrian at Central TVR.

http://www.centraltvr.com/classifieds/car/new-proj...

You get involved in the final spec from day 1 and will be able to see everything they do from initial chassis refurb through to final presentation.

This is fantastic thank you.

I am also going completely against my initial post and looking at this at the weekend and bringing Ian from TorqueRVT with me so i can get a professional opinion on it. I have no idea what will happen if he says it is a good car.....

I am sure many of you will appreciate that when your car is a constant work in progress it can spend more time in the garage than on the road, by going for a refurbished model then I hope to avoid this situation. I am open to all possibilities at the moment.

There is another post about this particular car, in fact there have been a few this last 12 months.

None of them were praising the condition of this car, especially for the price.

It has been on sale for almost 12 months now, and that to me says it all.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I apologise for putting this car in a bad light before you even go to view it, but............thats what these threads are for............... infomation...............

The final decision is with you, the buyer.

That's what I did - anything within a sensible distance I viewed, chim or griff - it's well worthwhile just to get more of an idea of what's right and what could be a money pit.

I know you are looking in the Chimaera section, but i have just spotted this on ebay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-Griffith-Very-Rare-P...

Full chassis rebuild, nitron suspension and an early pre-cat griff.

A fantastic car all round, especially to drive, and a surefire investment.
