Thinking of selling

I keep having the same thoughts. I'm a lucky boy in that I have a Porsche 996 as well. Keep thinking that the Porsche is more reliable. more modern and more economical as well but then I think that the TVR won't lose any money so might as well keep it until I'm 100% sure. If I put the money in the bank what would I get, 0.5% interest!!!
QBee are you an accountant???????
996 are they a very expensive time bomb unless you have the Turbo .QBee are you an accountant???????
Ive looked at the 996 and 997 but I have been told to forget those models untill the direct injection 997 , I think 2008 on .
Have read the info about the bearings/oil leak and consequent engine replacement but I can honestly say that I haven't had any problems. Believe that the failure rate is actually quite low - 5% but like anything it's bad news that travels. I have read reports that the 3.6 is less prone to this but then other people have argued that the older engines are less prone to bore scoring. Mine currently has 105,000 miles and is an everyday supercar as some call them!!!!

Good question. Just get the feeling it may be time to move on. Had it since 2005, and as you know I've spent a lot of time and a fortune to get it where it is now but I'm just not using it. [It's done less than 23k miles from new!]
When I do get any time it's taken up with other things. Maybe a case of Winter blues along with making the decision to chuck in the towel on my business this month and just wanting to change everything.
It's a tough decision when your worlds thrown upside down by business. When I do get any time it's taken up with other things. Maybe a case of Winter blues along with making the decision to chuck in the towel on my business this month and just wanting to change everything.

Only you know how you feel and I admire you for being honest about it.
I have this dilemma almost everyday.
I've lost a lot, the material stuff I'm not bothered about, but oddly the Tvr is one of the few things I now value much more than the money it cost or I could return from it.
Maybe you've just got to the point there's nothing to perfect and need a new challenge.
Hide the car at a mates place for 3 days,,,, you'll soon put that marvellous car back where it belongs,,, in your warm loving garage and home.
This sort of confirms to me why I've been softening the car down.
It's great at being extreme but I enjoy a level of comfort in any car I'm in,
Putting odd looking but super grippy winter tyres on has saved my car from being sold!
Nothing to do with the extra grip, all to do with not cringing at every manhole coming my way, I'm now aiming at the bds
I've gone from having a death trap in these conditions to a remarkably modern feeling and gripping car.
I do have softer spring rates though.
Keep the faith as yours is the standard we all dream of Mac.

Accountants are so boring tho.......constantly looking at figures, explaining tax to people, advising how they can make more profit.
Guess what........me too. Bloody Tax Returns!, people don't appreciate how hard we have it. Was in the office myself today, you nearly done?
Still quite a lot left, but the only worrying ones are those where I don't even have sight of the accounting info yet, and are S/e traders. And no, Daz, we charge about the same rate you do.....if my bathroom is anything to go by. Guess what........me too. Bloody Tax Returns!, people don't appreciate how hard we have it. Quite a few of my clients share my interest in cars, which makes them more interesting. One even has 7 cars, ranging from a 1929 Humber to a TVR Tuscan, and including a 1950s Merc and a 1970s corvette. But that's the pleasure - different people with different interests. All interesting in their own way. Strange thing is i don't have any plumbers among my clients.
I don't know you mac, but your car wants for nothing, so I wouldn't let it go until you are 100% certain. Run something in parallel for a while and take it from there.
It may not be your thing but I can recommend a Boxster! Picked mine up a few days ago and currently in Suffolk with the good lady who would never have made this trip in the TVR and it's already "our" car.
No plans to sell the TVR but this car is going to get a lot of use and have made it my daily driver! The forum is very good as well, sensible moderation, good humour and lots of active members!

Mac Ive had this a couple of times with the Chim. Its more fun building and doing stuff to it and improving it.... and then it just sits there.
Where these cars really shine is when you take it on a road trip with a mate, go to europe with it and have some fun in the alps or come to Norway!

OP- as has been said, at least wait until the decent weather returns before making a decision surely? Not least for the whole reduced-value-in-winter thing, but you'll have a clearer idea of just what you'll be giving up when the weather is warmer and the sun is out...
Just stumbled across this from October 2015...........

Crikey, thanks for comments guys means a lot.
To drive? well, it can be driven like a pussycat with light throttle/negative boost. Low speed and cruising manners are and it is smooooth.
Press on a bit [squeezing toes more than moving foot] and it's quick, very quick Press on some more by moving foot a bit and phoook me, I worry about the seat mounts holding up! Sends you into fits of giggles thinking about it. Traction can be a problem. It really is down to throttle, how much do you want and how much can you handle at any given time. I LOVE it. Gearbox and clutch are a delight to use also. During the recent trip to Italy in it was faultless. I posted somewhere else that I swear it snears at me when I walk into the garage and would head-butt me for just looking at it. EPIC

You know my thoughts on the matter after our conversation on the phone yesterday.
