Sorry, note obvious mistake in post title - should read electric wing mirror wiring diagram....

When I bought my 1998 450 last year the only things that didn't work were the wing mirrors. Having owned TVRs before I got over it pretty quickly and manually adjusted them to where they needed to be - job done. Well, today I took my door cards off to replace speakers and add new 12v socket and noticed when I was fishing around in the driver's door rather sorry looking bundle of wires hanging down behind the window motor mechanism - see uploaded pic.

Looks like there might once have been a multi-connector plug on the end of them and I can see what is probably the opposite connector sitting on the end of a loom at the bottom of the door. Assuming TVR didn't let the car leave the factory like this, seems someone's butchered it in the past for whatever reason. As I have the card off at the moment I'd quite like to have a crack at getting them working, but i've got no idea what wire corresponds to each pin the connector. I appreciate it's a long shot but does anyone have a wiring diagram for the door mirrors or point me in the right direction?

I've also read on other mirror related posts that there is a relay somewhere in the mix? What does this do and where am I likely to find it? No sign of it in the door.

Thanks

Someone has pulled the terminals off trying to get them out of the other half of the connector. There's a method to doing it.
You have to release the terminals from the connector to take the mirror off the door, as the hole in the door is too small for the connector to go through.

There's a moderate chance the colours correspond between the two halves of the connector, though IIRC that leaves you still trying to match the correct pairs that are the same colour as each other. However, trial and error will get you there pretty quickly and won't cause any damage. Two wires are for the heated mirror, three for the motor.

I would leap to it and photograph my own car's wiring, but unfortunately it is 80 miles away having a new engine fitted right now.

Great many thanks. Don't suppose you have any idea about the relay? Assuming this is to switch signals between left and right mirrors? Is it to be found in the loom in the driver's door, i've not found it yet.

Cheers

Fair enough! Well, if I can't find it, I won't worry about it!

Probably completely wrong but I thought the relay was for the heated mirrors rather than operating their movement?

If there is one then I would think it is very close to the driver's switches.

This is only a guess on my part as I have no wiring diagram, you may find that the 3 wires taped together operate a mirrors up, down, left and right functions and the other pair of wires taped together are the supply and return

On my 2000 reg Chimaera (wiring may be the same), the 5 pin connector has different colours from each side of it. Drivers side connections are:-

1. A black 'pair' of wires (the bottom 2 in a 5 pin connector) go to a black & a blue/orange wire. These are for the heated mirror and could be connected either way round I expect.

2. The other 3: brown - yellow / black
white - red / blue
black - pink

There are another 2 separate black wires on mine but these are for the door release button on the mirror housing.

Thanks! Yes, I'd spotted an additional couple of wires coming down and as you say assumed they were for the door release button. The colours are definitely different on both side of the connector but that helps and I'll have a fiddle to see if I can get it working.
