Seeing the amount of £££ being flung around above reminds me why I try not to be fussy about the performance of my Tiv. I always knew my car would be poverty spec but now it truly appears so!

Don't forget TVR Parts supply the parts required to upgrade the Mk4 bilstiens to a fully adjustable platform in terms of ride height:

I believe someone on here did do this upgrade.
This is good yes
Once you've got the shocks of your choice you really should have the car corner weighted to get the best out of the set up and that means little ride height changes to get the cross weight spot on (Matt Smith is rather good at this )
So these are vital and makes the decision easier but still not total hehe

So is Powers looking at doing any chassis modifications in regards to the dampners and wishbones for the chimaera and Griffith chassis?
They will be when your working for them wink

Dom will do many things if he likes the look of it or because a valued customer wants something different, he just doesn't advertise it Mark.
Having some idea of your working skills I think you'd have a ball there and keep pushing things on for the older cars including some desperately needed chassis mods we all could do with.
Just a thought scratchchinsmile

I agree with this, I am not entirely convinced spending 3k+ on a set of Ohlins for example is worthwhile given the design of the chassis. Harry Metcalfe, the editor of Evo recalls the story of Gordon Murray's partner trying to sort out the suspension on his newly acquired Griff by putting it on the McLaren jig and trying various setups, and ultimately failing. I think I would invest in a Sportmotive Evo chassis before fancy suspension, another reason the Mk4 bilstiens are a good option IMO.

Harry's recollection of the chassis jig mentioned here:

I think you'd like it there. Properly equipped workshop and each time I've been the place is spotlessly clean. thumbup

I'll try and look after my chassis until then Mark, hehe

I've watched that vid years ago Matt
, interesting,,,, were better drivers then we think biglaugh

I'm 6 months off considering other shocks as I want to give my Protechs more of a chance with bigger springs and change of valving first as I've found them quite subtle when changing damper settings.
If I do change shocks I'm close to choosing MK4 Billies smile

I was also thinking about the mk4 billies to replace my old GG's. They do seem a bit pricey though, just added up all the parts and it comes to £1017! which is almost in nitron territory.

Do any of the suppliers do a good deal on a full set with springs, bushes and height adjuster?

Call or email Ben Lang, if you contact him directly he'll do you a better deal than on eBay.

Tel: 07855 503252

Email: bglang@btinternet.com

FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/blackdownautomotive/

My bespoke sprung & valved Mk4 Billies were £996.24 fully assembled, talk to Ben though as mine were a mix of components, IE Griff/Chim fronts and his slightly more expensive Tuscan 'S' rears, the spring rates and valving were specially chosen to suit the extra weight my LPG powered Chimaera caries over the rear axle line.

I believe if you just go with his Griff/Chim kit front and rear the price will be closer to £900.

Ben set the ride height to ensure I could just bolt my new Bilsteins to my car, and I haven't touched them since. There was no tweaking, adjusting or messing about, they just worked brilliantly straight out of the box which is exactly what I wanted.

Price wise my Mk4 Bilsteins worked out between Gaz Gold Pros and Nitrons, for the money their nearest competitor would be Gaz Monos.

Chimaera owners have the following suspension options:
  • Protech: £560.00 + postage (Protech)
  • Gaz Gold Pro: £658.80 + postage (ACT)
  • Gaz Monotubes: £958.80 + postage (ACT)
  • Mk4 Bilsteins Tuscan 2 "S" spec: £996.24 including postage (Ben Lang)
  • Nitrons: £1320.00 + postage (Powers Performance)
  • Intrax 1K2 or RSA: various options all being more money than Nitrons
  • Ohlins: Even more money than Intrax
