Hi All,

Afraid this is not for my Chimaera which I really must put back together in the next few weeks, However, seeing as there is a hell of a lot of RV8 knowledge here thought I would ask about a P38 problem..

It has LPG fitted which recently went wrong. Bought the LPG ECU cable and it seems it has deleted its settings, or they were never right and it is a hardware fault (bought some bits to change over to trouble shoot this already this weekend.

Main problem is that I can't get the revs to read right, it reads double. GEMS ECU runs 4 coils for the 8 plugs wasted spark I believe so if I am right it is seeing two inputs per 360 deg evolution (hence double rpm). I therefore think the ECU must be connected to the coil for rev take off. There is no LPG ECU setting that allows for this.

Without the rev reading correct I can't auto calibrate it (It uses the lambdas 5-0v as 96 P38).

Not sure where to go from here to get the rev reading right. Any ideas.

Cheers,

Matt.

You may find solving the problem can be achieved faster and much cheaper by simply replacing your LPG piggyback ECU with something newer.

I believe being GEMS you will have an OBD2 port, so if you use something like the well respected LPGTech Tech-328 OBD8 cylinder LPG ECU it's pretty much plug and play.

The Tech-328 OBD also comes with the full loom, a gas pressure/temp sensor, changeover switch ect ect.

It's a £200 investment, but it'll probably save you time and money over trying to sort out what you have, with the added bonus of giving you one of the latest LPG ECUs with all the benefits they offer.

The LPGTech software is straightforward and with the addition of their BlueTech XT Wireless ECU interface you can calibrate the system without even plugging in over Bluetooth.
