Morning all,

Quick quessie about track day insurance. Can anyone recommend a good and/or cheap track day insurance provider?

On that note, I have heard through the grapevine that Direct Line, my preferred insurer, will cancel your insurance if you admit to taking your wagon on track, does anybody know if there's any truth to this!?!

Cheers!

A.Manning policy has track day insurance built in which is a huge saving as most will offer cover for individual track days at an extra cost per T?D and i've been quoted as much as £200 per T/D which is a joke when i may do 20+ in a season.

Possibly,,, don't tell em. wink

Truth is whatever others tell you it's dangerous as you can't always read what other drivers are doing or there level of experience so being insured is a must in my book. thumbup

Totally agree, and no matter how good a driver you think you are, it will not save you when someone's poorly maintained car spews oil on the track

Classic Line 01455 639000
Classic car insurance broker
Policy is a classic car policy with a Equity Red Star.
Covers your car on normal terms for all road use, limited mileage.
6 track days included in your premium. Additional days at £53 per TD.
Track day cover is your car damage only, and first 10% of the value of your car is the excess.
A lot better than nothing.

Thanks guys, lots of useful info there.

Had a couple of quotes and they look roughly like this:

A.Manning - ~£450 fully comp incl. unlimited track day cover, not bad!
Footman James - ~£150!!! not incl track day cover. Thank you TVRCC! They only offer track cover to people >30 yrs of age, which I ain't! Balls!

For that money though I reckon I'd be an idiot to not go with them and get TD cover as I go, I only plan to do <3 this season, can't afford anymore than that frankly! I've asked CCI for a day rate quote as I've heard they're the best for one-offs?

Still need to get a quote from ClassicLine, but I can't believe how cheap Footman James is!

I'm with Classicline. Very pleasant and helpful people.

BUT

they are underwritten by Equity Red Star (ERS). Some masonry fell on to my car so contacted Classicline who then put me through to Equity Red Star. So I was put on hold and after 10 mins gave up. Tried again and no chance. Tried again. Gave up.

So had a look for reviews of ERS. Unsurprisingly I found this:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews112963.html

and this

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/equityredstar.co....

I know all insurance companies are excellent at taking your premiums. I also now know they are not all excellent when its the other way round.

Bye bye to both in May at renewal time.

EEEK, those are some pretty scathing reviews, may give them a wide berth!

I'm currently speaking to Manning's and have received a quote that includes track day cover that is only £80 dearer than my renewal quote from another firm that does not offer track day cover as an inclusion. Given that my car has an agreed value of £20,000 and I know how expensive individual track day cover policies can be it appears to be a no brainer thumbup

Will be speaking to them tomorrow to confirm a few things (protected NCD, breakdown cover, European cover etc.) and will almost certainly change to them.

It doesn't make very good reading but from a quick search it looks like Mannings are Allianz and their rating are worse on trustpilot and just very slightly better on the reviewcentre.

The info saying Allianz was from quick search on a 2010 PH thread so things may of changed, can't seem to find anything on the Manning web page ( But I've not spent very long on there)

Edited to add the fact that 20-25 years ago we couldn't do any of this internet searching around and just went with what we thought was the best info via pub or friends chat. Still applies in some sort of fashion as reading internet reviews is just a nightmare.
Just reading through some of the GG threads there's nightmare stories from all of the insurance companies.

I'm with Mannings.

My limited mileage policy does give me free track day cover, BUT it's only at certain tracks, which below to 1 or 2 particular organisations, i.e

Brands Hatch (& tracks owned by the same group which comply to these organisations) is covered, but Goodwood etc wont be.

I think £1k excess to.

My wife's car is insured with Equity Red Star through ClassicLine. She had a minor bump, I reported it to ClassicLine, they dealt with all the rest. Like a broker should.

Also, when this thing about bad reviews came up a few months ago, I asked CL about it when calling them about a track day (you have to tell them and get approval in advance before being covered for a track day).
Their MD called me straight back and said they have thousands of policies with ERS and have never had a problem. He also said you can find similar comments from aggrieved individuals about every company. In effect, don't believe every axe grinder you read on 't'internet.

Try competition cars. They're linked to Footman James in some way but include TDs! I'm under 30 btw and my track days are included. Not a TVR mind, but thought was worth mentioning as I bet they can help!

Just as a note, I have had the missfortune of dealing with E.R.S. for my Daughters car and they are a nightmare and will write your car off quicker than you can say where the f###k is my car and i wont my after market wheels back off it!...Manning//Allianz i have had to use twice and had no trouble, agreed non approved repair centre etc. etc. Manning Policy does include an additional policy for a company that deals with the ins claim for you.

Agreed value is available with ERS.
I need to check if a buy back clause also exists.

Well I guess the main thing is you're happy with you're results... But if you do enough searching you will find more than one complete opposite scenario.

I've seriously almost given up on customer reviews, same with recommendations of TVR specialists that can be great for some and a disaster for others. I think we just have to realize that sometimes things can just go wrong for whatever reason.

A few years ago I needed an tyre pressure gauge and searched all the reviews and went for the best price rated one... It's absolutely not the best in my opinion, bought a different highly rated one and just having two new tyres on my Jag they both give completely different reading than that of the tyre depot.

Edited: Anyone got any recommendations for a "good" accurate tyre pressure gauge laugh

Sorry for going off topic OP.

That sounds like the 2nd one I bought... It has a 2-3 psi difference between my other one and using the one you speak of while at the depot it was giving different readings than the depot. After trying it on one tyre giving 33 then test the other tyre. Then go back to the tyre that gave 33, 2-3 mins later it would read 31,2 mins later 33.

The depot gauge who is a friend of mine constantly gave 32. Maybe I just got a duff one( Which again brings back the view on customer ratings).. Thx for the feedback QBee.
