Storm Dorris claimed a TVR victim. I didn't notice until yesterday that the wind had blown through my garage at some point and unsettled the Christmas decorations stored in the eves, causing the Christmas tree stand to fall.

It landed on the wing and slid across the bonnet.

If the fiberglass is still good you should consider your self lucky, have the front end respray and pretend it never happened

I agree, could have been a lot worse, still gutted though. I'll contact my insurer on Monday

Same here cry Bloody Doris blew some masonry out of the eaves and of course it landed on the car. Has marked the windscreen, and the paint through to the base coat on door and wing. madfuriousragesmash

Could these be repaired by a claim through the house insurance? It was 'storm damage' after all, not an accident or damage caused by the driver.

The effect on future premiums wouldn't be as bad a car insurance claim I'd have thought.

In my experience they don't always load premiums where you weren't the tt at fault.

I got run off the road by a woman who was texting back in 2009, as my instinct to swerve and avoid the collision kicked in.
My car was upside down in the ditch, a complete write off. She didn't even notice what she had done.
My insurance premiums were unaffected, despite not having protected bonus.

In a similar vein, my wife had a low speed accident a couple of weeks ago when unable to see to get out of a junction - she crept forward, her view blocked by illegally parked cars (primary school drop off) and saw the car coming along the main road too late to avoid a collision. Insurance was renewed a week later with no increase to premium. Her no claims was unaffected as she doesn't have one - her Saab is on a classic policy due to her age being a true classic (or being linked with my TVR).

House insurer is Aviva who said the claim had to go through the car insurer. After a heated discussion about the excess and an increased premium for the car insurance they said they would repay the excess. If the car had not been insured then they would have paid out.
Equity Red Star (Classicline) have agreed to me using my own choice of repairer (rather than theirs) so will be going to RT Racing, Sheffield next week to get the quote done.

Pretty much the same here. I'm using X Works to do the repairs. Simply a logistics thing.
Went to see them this week and they had a Chimaera in that had just had a front end respray and they had done an excellent job.

This update may be of interest to those who are looking to insure their cars either now or in the future.
The 'accident' damage to my car happened 8 weeks ago when some masonry was blown out of the gable end of my partner's house and landed on my car. The house insurer, Aviva, said it had to be claimed through my car insurance. So, I emailed Classicline who I am insured through, sending pictures and details.
They advised me to contact Equity Red Star (ERS) directly to make the claim.

I rang ERS and was on permanent hold. Several attempts and could not get through so emailed Classicline again. They somehow managed to get through instantly and promised ERS would contact me to start the claim. A few days later and ERS took all the details and asked me to send them pictures of the damage. Despite telling them that Classicline had already done this they insisted so I sent them all again. Then nothing. No contact at all. Impossible to get through on the claim number so once more an email to Classicline. And again they got through instantly so a team leader from ERS called. She told me to get a quote from a repairer and to send pictures of the damage. Eh?

So I went to my preferred body shop and they produced a professional detailed report. I sent this straight off to ERS. And guess what? Yep, nothing. Another email to Classicline and by magic ERS email me to say the quote is being assessed by their engineers so I will know in a couple of days. Then another email asking for a picture that includes the registration number despite it being in the group I have previously sent out. But, I send it again anyway.

That was 10 days ago, the claim is now 8 weeks old and I am still no further forward. I did a search for reviews of ERS and was absolutely shocked at the results. While people generally only complain the fact is that ERS appear to be one of the most complained about insurance companies out there.

My insurance is up for renewal next month. I have now withdrawn my claim and will pay to have the work done. I noticed there was a Classicline stand at Burghley last Sunday but decided not to vent my frustration then.

I have called Classicline directly and informed them I will never use their services again. As always, it is only when you make a claim that you find out how good an insurance company really is. furious

Brokers are very good at placing business, the good ones act as your agent in the event of a claim.

Sadly it's only at claim time that you fully realise how good the insurance broker or company is that you placed your faith in.

This is making my insurance look good.
Manning, both when I had a bump which cost thousands and then again when my windscreen was chipped to the point of being dangerous. No quibbles, no photos just choose my preferred repairer and take the car to them.
I had a bump on the Saturday by the Tuesday my car was in the bodyshop and they took care of the rest.

My premium hasn't risen by much and the bump was 4 years ago. Slightly more expensive than other policies but includes trackday and foreign travel for upto 3 months at a time so I'm happy enough.
It'll be interesting what my premium will be this year what with recent news insurance is going up considerably.
Minor bumps costing more to repair because of warning sensors and the like on modern cars, bull crap but hey!

Be careful with this one. I lost my no- claim even though I withdrew the claim because, as they said, 'you have still made a claim'

Needless to say they didn't get next year's renewal!

I've posted a few times on the TVR forums re:insurance. Usually it's the "Insurance up for renewal" posts.

As OP has learnt - the cheapest quotes do not necessarily mean the best service! I'd also advise anyone who goes through these brokers to find out who the underwriter is. All you need to do is Google ERS and find a long list of disgruntled customers. All IMHO.

Yes, I thought this too and is why I contacted them first. They were very quick to drop it straight to the underwriter. Poor service I think. We live and learn.

I have the same insurance company,Classisline. My claim was passed to ERS and then the email came from some people at innovation group. Similar story as far a procedure for quote etc, but there the similarity stops.
They had the quote for a week and I emailed asking for progress report. Quote is with our engineers, a couple of days later they contacted the repairer X Works TVR and gave authorisation. Car has now been repaired and I will be collecting after Easter.
The delay was down to me, due to work it took me about 3 weeks to get a quote but in that time ERS asked me for an update.
Maybe I just got a good handler.
