Must be a dodgy batch.

Mine worked perfectly straight out the box with no adaptations or machining necessary .

Just fitted a McLeod clutch to a car. The friction plate wasn't flat . The clutch is not disengaging fully. Would this be the reason. ?, its a 4 finger paddle clutch.

Paddle clutches are a thing to themselves. Usually very on/off or the few I've used were. If you need more clearance then it can be shimmed.
