Hi, car won't start! Symptoms . Parked up at home , went to start and the batter was flat. Unusual after only 4 days. Charged batter up. She turns over well , but not fuel pump prime and the relay is clattering. Changed the relay and still the same. I then put power to the pump via the connector and she fires up , but I now notice the fuel pump running continuously , is it ok to drive it like this? The other strange thing is that previously to alarm and dis alarm I would normally Put the key in the door lock, it's a 1994 , push down and turn to turn on one off the alarm/immobiliser. It does not do this any more. But when connecting power to the connection I put the wire in the wrong terminal and the alarm/immobiliser Cherped up??? Any clues to what's gong on. After a search I have changed both relays, but will only run if direct power to the pump via the connector. Can I drive it with the pump continuously on? Any advice and guidance much appreciated . Thanks

Have you used the right type of relay?
The type you need has 2 pins marked 87 (plus 30,85,86)
If yours has an 87 and an 87A it is the wrong type (but the most common 5 pin relay out there)

Having the fuel pump running all the time is not a problem for the pump but is a safety issue as the relay/ECU will switch off the pump when the engine stops, say as a result of an accident.

Steve, many thanks. I am using the correct relays , just checked. So how do I go about and fix the problem? I can't just run about with a wire into the pump feed? Could it be immobiliser connected?? If so anyone know of a person in the Cambridge area who could remove and by pass it?? Why would the relay clatter? Thanks

When you shorted the fuel pump relay base did you connect pin 30 to both pins 87? One pin 87 does fuel pump and purge valve. The other pin 87 does the lambdas.

Use a multimeter or test lamp to prove you have +12v on pin 86 (white/green wire). This comes via the immobiliser. Pin 85 (blue/purple) is earthed by the ECU to trigger the relay.

If the relay is chattering either the supply is intermittent or the earth (Via the ECU) is intermittent. It may also be nothing more complex than the battery not having enough charge for whatever reason.

Help need again, I basically added another relay to the fuel pump side and all works ok. Driving perfectly. BUT I noticed the green light on the central knob was lit. So I pressed it. All power went and coasted into lay by. Started up ok. When the door is open and I press the lit button nothing happened, but when the door is shut pressing the green light cuts the power.
Where do I need to be looking. Remove the alarm/immobiliser . I have never used it so not fussed about having one. Could somebody advise how I remove/bypass the immobiliser ?
