Depnds what you read, and every car is slightly different too.

"official" figures are:

4.0 3950cc 240 bhp
4.0 HC 3950cc High Compression 275 bhp
4.3 4280cc V8 280 bhp
4.5 4495cc V8 285 bhp
5.0 4988cc V8 340 bhp

..but then there's the Torque to consider

4.0 270 lb/ft
4.0 HC 305 lb/ft
4.3 310 lb/ft
4.5 310 lb/ft
5.0 350 lb/ft

Cheers
Matt.

Yep, and I'd like to be the first to say that a 400 puts out more like to 200-220 than 240 bhp

Anyone know what the percentage losses are between power at the flywheel, and at the wheels?

I have a rolling-road print from My Chim 500 which is putting out 258bhp at the wheels at 5553rpm - what is this putting out at the flywheel?

Yes, yes I know I’ve knocked over that can of worms and their wriggling all over this thread now.

But I’d like to know some of the AT THE WHEEL figures that people have got. Not the TVR claimed Blackpool pony power.

my car 4.0 got about 175bhp and 185lbft, how does this compare to others ?

Difference between power at wheels and at crank isnt a percentage really, it can be expressed as one but it isnt a hard and fast rule.

I had a rolling road session at Austec about 2 weeks ago, and my 4.5 peaked at 255bhp at the wheels.

Assuming a 20% transmission loss thats not bad at all 218 BHP at the flywheel.

Who's RR ?

Had my 4.5 on Austec's rolling road the other week.

At the flywheel it hit 268 bhp, with 307 ft/lbs (assuming 20% losses).

can i just be a pedant and add that the later 5.0 engines put out 320bhp and 320ftlb.these are the ones that didnt have the 500hc plenum badge, but were still 500hc in the handbook.this was tvr's way of coming clean on the true power output....just thought it was about time someone else opened another one of those cans

My 4.0HC stumped up 182BHP @ 5500rpm and 192ftlbs @ 4000 rpm. This is measured at the hub on Abbey Motor Sport's Dyno. Top man there Dan reckoned on about 40BHP drive train loss so about 222BHP at the flywheel. I was a bit dissapointed but I think I need a re-map to cope with the de-catting.
