To repeat the question asked above...............

Why would you want to turn the instrument lights off anyway?

In the dim and distant days when a vehicle was parked after sun-down on a Bus route, the Law required vehicles to use parking lights (now called side lights ??). It was a small battery-saver to switch off the instrument (dash) lights off when leaving the vehicle parked all night. Hence the button.

My, how things have changed............I'll stop before any rant commences...!!

Previous owner of my Chim direct connected the dash lights and used the 'left knee' switch as the Fan otter override - pretty handy actually, although I'll never be able to have the pleasure of the SAAB-style lights off mode....

A friend of mine also had a chim years ago. I can remember him saying that he had a problem with overheating in traffic. So the local TVR dealer in London suggested that he connected up as an override switch to fan.

Now if he suggested to my friend who had this mod done to his car. I am sure that the dealer suggested and perform this mod to other chims.

How many are out there?

Hi David, cheers for your help a couple of weeks back - I can confirm that mine makes as good a noise underground as yours did!!

I understand that a fair few cars have had an override switch added - several of the cars I looked at did. I am also lead to believe that most have had a separate switch added rather than using the dash lights switch. I'm prepared to be corrected though. As to its use; my current thinking is that it's more of a worry bead / panic button than anything else - if the fans are coming on/off ok on the thermostat, then it is unneccessary; only time will tell though.

By the way; my fans seem to cut in anywhere between 74 (1st time) and 90 (after a few cycles) on the dial - I'm assuming that the fan thermostat is totally separate to the temp dial and it is ok that it is doing its own thing?
