Hi all, hoping you might be able to help me out.

I have recently done a full rebuild and am close to finishing, recently installed a new dash and have an issue. It all works as it should, all dials correct etc until you turn the lights on using the sidelight button. the rev counter then goes to zero and the other dials go to maximum? The sidelight light on the dash doesnt come on either. All the lights work as they should including the fog light.

Any ideas would be appreciated, I will be checking all the wiring particularly the earth cables, these were all re-connected when the body went back on and it was all working ok.

Have you got the Steve D wiring diagrams?
Might help.
From what I remember, the dash clocks etc all share an earth, so it potentially could be a single easy fix.

PM me and I can email them to you

I would check the grounds on the transmission tunnel area.

Most likely tunnel earth on the offside. Worth checking that all of the earth ring terminals have been replaced.

In the mean time lift the dash top and find the earth wire that runs between all the instuments. Connect a wire between this and the negative battery terminal and see if the symptoms go away.

Thanks Steve, will try this and see what happens, the dash top is already off which makes it easy to get to. I did redo all the earth terminals when I put the body back on but will check them all again to make sure.

Note to self 'check all the earth points before anything else!'

I found the issue, the earth point on the top of the tunnel was not tightened properly, once done up tight everything works as it should.

Thanks for the help

Any ideas why one of the side indicators would be very dim when flashing? the drivers side is ok and all the other indicators are good?

Could be a duff bulb or dirty contacts in the bulb holder. Could also be poor contacts in the connector behind the carpet/outer wall passenger footwell.
