Mr meldrew or may I call you Vic?

I fully agree that this thread needs some pictures, I have had to replace all my camera stuff after it was "lifted" @ le mans, got a new one now just not got round to loading the software onto the PC.

Been spending every available spare bit of time on the chim....excuses over I will try and do it tonight.

Spent yesterday degreasing the diff/propshaft/steering rack, cleaned up all the brake pipes, thanks for the tip Mr Venn , used wirewool on the brake lines and they have come like new. I did not give the chassis a glance, as I need to take a view on the next steps with this.

How do you load pictures up on here cos when I tried to do one for my profile it wouldn't let me do it?

I don't have broadband....and the new camera is 8 meg, so will this take about a month to load up?

Oh I live in Nuneaton (sunny nunny), if you live close (or anyone else feel free to come round have poke some motre holes in my lightweight chassis, just like Phil did Saturday!

Question

Anyone on here ever used or has knowledge of Hot Zinc Spraying, I understand that this has been used to treat boat hulls...so must be a reasonable way of treating chassis?

Anwers on a postcard!

Oh anyone got a new chassis at the right price, and don't say TVR Blackpool cos that would be

Many thanks for the rolls, tea,& beer on Saturday.
Guess you will be visiting the local pound shop to replace the quality "SNAP-OFF" tools that didnt survive the chimaera strip down (about half of your spanner collection).
Its now BIG DECISION TIME !

Bob,

Rolls and tea and beer small price to pay for such a skilled quality workforce, particularly Tony M and Mac!

Thanks to Sammy and Ginny...as ever

Your help was v much appreciated, just need to spend a fivver on a complete new set of quality products to put the chim back together, basis of use once and bin!

Despite potentially having the chance of a new (been sitting around for a while) bit grubby chassis at a very reasonable price it looks like I will be sticking with the "lite weight" chassis.

I have made some phone calls this morning, as it stands at the momenet:

1.Thursday drop chassis off at sandblasters
2.Collect it Friday (my birthday by the way, and no it's not the big one I am not 40 for years yet!) take it to Adrian Venns
3.Adrian will cut off and refrabricate outriggers, improving integrity of tubing and "closing" off joints as discussed on Saturday.
4. The other problem "pinhole" will be internally sleeved and filled with bronze weld.
5. Chassis back for further shotblast and then Hot Zinc Sprayed.
6. I will work with Adrain over the weekend to get the job done.

I have also spoken with Greg Lunn (Newlun Design), and we think that there is a possibility that this chassis could become a colour coded job ...watch this space!

Bet you have gone green or even ocean haze with envy me old lad!

My thinking is that powdercoating is not the way to go, I guess you won't agree with this?

Hey boy

See the previous post, Greg says he can put more hardener in the paint to make it extra strong, he has also offerred to do the engine bay....just need to source a compressor...has Tony M got one?
This car is going from er rust to...

You and Bob twins separated at birth ...one normal sized the pint sized me thinks....

Fancy coming round for a degrease party?

The body only needs to come up 6 inches to do 90% of the chassis - if full body off cos it is that bad - best just scrap it!

Yes indeed, it is that bad.
In this case, the body was being used as a sub frame to hold the chassis together.
Do the decent thing, bury it!.
Or leave it outside for 2 weeks, at the current rate of corrosion it shouldnt last much longer than that.

You really dont know Steve do you? How on earth would he be able to bling the chassis without striping it down to bare metal first?
Seriously, when he does a job he does it well, witness the superb state of the car now compared to when he first got it. Its a credit to kit cars.(sorry Steve, had to get that in)

If you've raised the ficker 6 inches, then you might aswell take the body off, as you've done all the hard work.

Steve's project is more "restoration" than "repair". Chassis will be as new.

re hot zinc/galvanizing etc The problem with any form of treatment involving heat is the tendancey for things to heat and cool at unequal rates, and expand and contrat at equally different rates leaving you with one very twisted chassis.

Thanks Phil, it is as if I didn't research the various options first ...doh I think not.

I appraoched 2 credible "specialists" no names cos I don't want the Cr*p that could follow.

One took me through the processs of a 9inch lift, came up with some real rubbish, I guess they presumed that I was open cheque canon fodder, the starting price was £3.5K, plus other consumables along the way....so I guess nearer 5K by the time I got the bill. The other was much more open and provided a cup of tea...still £5-6K though.

Fleetingly I did consider patching her up and passing on the problem to some innocent person, but I am not like that.

I treat the car as a hobby, run it on a budget and enjoy the experience good or bad. I have mates (yes I know it may be hard to believe!)that have spent far more than myself (even taking into account this project)on "running" costs, so I don't have a problem with spending a little time and effort on something that I will end up being proud of...

Oh er Rant (mostly over) but thanks for the advice.

Steve upload your pics to this site:

http://imageshack.us/

The when you want to post a pic on here just type:

[pic]www.imageshack.blah blah blah.jpg[/pic]

You can look at the format by going to 'quote' on a post that someone has already posted an image on.

Then it should appear

David,

The link appears to work, but the image is massive, I lost interest half way through waiting for it to appear, nice trees I thought!

Ideally I want to load pictures in the same way as "Phil" did on page 2 of this topic...been sat here loading up the software to the new camera, then sorting out the link....could of been cleaning some bits up for the past 2 hours!

Steve

I am ok with the "smiles legends though.

So ; where does the black finish wxy-oyl fit in with the bling finished chassis ?

Having deeply disturbed visions of you polishing outriggers & chassis rails after a good days run out.
