Never mind that, sort the bloomin' dash out!

The dashboard is sorted out - and YHM

Thanks Andy - original arrived back safely today - YHM

The dashboard looks great and I can't wait to see it in the flesh - no more worries about peeling veneer or rusting. Took me a while to find it though at www.pistonheads.com/sales/165599.htm (This is the one isn't it?)

Do you have any more for sale in case I have a friend wanting one when they see mine? I can see I'll be busy fitting them for several of the e-mids crowd!

YHM BTW

Hi Andy (YHM) I see on another thread that your back is playing up, hope it gets better soon. My mail to you was asking as to how much work you had to do on your chassis and how long did it take you.

I will be back on monday (hopefully) so i shall check my mail them.

As for work on the chassis i did the following.

Both outriggers from ront to rear
It was only the first 4 to 6 inches that had rusted through but i replaced the whole length.
Replaced the seat belt mounts as well as these had rusted badly.
Cut out the tubes going from the main box section chassis tubes to the front of the outriggers and replaced them.
Repaired tubing around the top front wishbone mount.
Cut out a section of box section on one of the main chassis rails and relaced that.
Replaced studs for rear exhaust mount and petrol pump mount.
Re tapped all holes and remaining studs.

As for time that is a little harder to work out.
The first outrigger took a full saturday to do. I live in a quiet area and didnt want to upset the neighbours so i did it all with a hacksaw and drremel...the second one i couldnt be bothereed and bought some oxy acetylene cutting gear and it took about 2 or 3 hours!!!

Welding time was about one day solid...by the time you weld one side up and turn the chassis over to weld the other side and then check that you have not left any holes.

How much have you got to do???
Just a pointer...normal car repair practice is to remove no more than twao panels at once...i thought about this and removed one outrigger, then tack weld in the new one before removing the second one.

Just been puting some parts back on and thought you might want to see how it is looking.

This is the front (obviously) with the steering rack in place.

This is the rear, much improved to the original pics!!!

Thanks to you all.

Just had my first full day in the garage...!!!!

Got all the rear running gear in, diff, gearbox, rear wheels and shocks.
I would post some pics but people will be getting bored by now!!!
Hopefully in the next week or so i will be in a position to lift the body back on.
I have decided to hold fire on the interior retrim as i have missed the car too much and just want to take it for a spin.

I have got some more good news as well.
I friend of mine has just started a job working for a company that makes nuts, bolts and other fittings (including stainless!!!). He has had a look at some of the bolts left that have not been put on yet and he said he can get all of them....including the long ones for the diff mounts.
If anyone knows of the sizes and types of threads for any bolts can they let me know and i shall put together a list.

Cheers

andy
