Please can anyone help I have a 4.0 chimaera 1993 that will not rev cleaning over 5000, it has just been serviced, had a fast road cam fitted and also a Mark Adams chip, there is no power after 5000 and the only way to progress is change gear please can someone help!!!!!!!!!!
I have not tried optomax yet as it was full of fuel could try on monday as it will need some but has anyone else any ideas or is this normal?

Normal - why would you want to / need to rev over 5000? Swap it for a S2000 if you want to feel urgency in the engine!

Whatever the case the engine should still rev cleanly to 5,800 - 6,000. I think Mark's chip raises the rev limiter a few hundred rpm too.

Have the HT leads ever been replaced? If not, or if they look a bit old then replace these and the plug extenders. ACT Products(advertise on this site) supply the plug extenders at half the price you can get them from TVR or Vauxhall (yep, that's the manufacturer of the extenders). Take the coil off and shake it - if it sloshes about it's knackered. Obviously these items can be tested properly, but they're the usual suspects to look at first on these cars.

Another option is fuel starvation

Yeah may well be fuel starvation if your'e lucky. I noticed that mine always ran better after filling her up, I quickly discounted the fact that she was just happy that I had spent some money on her and put two and two together when I heard a hiss of inward rushing air when removing the filler cap.
Sure enough after cutting a notch of a few mill's out of the cork sealer I had no more negative pressure in the tank, it could suck as much fuel as it needed through, now goes like the proverbial of the shovel

Thanks for the help I have just loosened the fuel cap to see if this helps (did not try it today as it was a bit slipy), will fill up with optamax tommorrow as well, when the car was serviced by peninsula they checked the HT leads etc said they were OK (only 350 miles ago)
I will let you know how I get on tommorrow

Glad you got it sorted.

I don't think it will, if standard the rev limiter kicks in at 6K

Its not standard has a Mark Adams (best guess)chip and fast road cam but I won't be trying to go over 6000 its just so nice that it revs smoothly to that point!
