My car won't start as the fuel pump isn't getting any power to it. I do know that the pump itself is ok. However, I haven't tested the fuel pump relay or fuse nor the inertia switch as I can't find them yet!!! The fuse and relay are not on the layout boards either in the handbook or Steve Heath's book and the inertia switch is definitely not below the wiper motor! Can any of you give me a clue....are they possibly behind the battery panel? The car is a 430 Chimaera registered 08/93.

I assume the pump isn't making the usual sound.
The spade connector came off the pump on my Chimaera, just stretched under and slid it back on, crimped with pliers and has been fine since.

Check the fuel pump relay, it is a metal cased Bosch relay on a flying lead, separate from the main fuse box/relay panel. (There will be two similar relays, one controls the fuel pump.) I seem to remember the bible saying the fuel cutoff switch is in the boot on the rear bulkhead. No doubt your copy of the bible would tell you.

My fuel cut off (inertia switch) is sited just behind the book holder panel (under the dash in the passenger footwell).

Is your alarm 'defeating' the fuel pump - many do....

It could be alarm.....just don't know now....my knowledge with these things is very limited. Still can't find the fuel pump relay & fuse (is it under the dash top cover?). I've located the inertia switch (button in the down position - is that correct?).

My '93 Chim still utilises the key in door locks to arm/disarm alarm. Before I discovered Red LED on Dash was not working I could not tell if the car was alarmed or not - 'till it went off !! However, I did notice when the power was absent from Fuel Pump (noise), but also fuel guage would always indicate zero fuel. So, if the power to fuel pump is absent AND fuel guage is zero (presuming it wasn't before !!), your alarm has removed power to ECU and hence Fuel pump. Suggest settting/resetting alarm as per handbook (you have one??). Cheers.

Go to the Passenger side, lift back the carpets, and the foot rest. You will see the battery and fuse box. On the right is the ECU box, there will be 2 'loose' relays and fuses one of these are for the fuel. Test that they both are live when the ignition is on.

You've probably sorted this by now - but just in case and if anyone else is reading.
Apart from the checks shown above directly related to the relay and wiring to the fuel pump, there could be a separate problem, which means the power is not getting to the fuel pump to prime.

I recently had this and discovered that fuse 12 had blown (ECU) and tracing the path through subsequently found that the coil had shorted, blowing the fuse, therefore not getting any power to the pump etc.

I was a bit suprised, as this coil had only been replaced by a TVR specialist recently. On trawling the boards discovered that the coil I had been given (plain black casing - no manufacturer markings - words COL 220 ELECTRONIC COIL written on the bottom) was a very cheap unreliable unit.

Now replaced with the proper Bosche L/Rover part (number PRC6574 for those interested.)
