I have a Foxguard FG something or other (factory fitted) on my 95 Chimaera and noticed recently that it is totally silent (when arming/disarming and when activated). When activated the flashers flash which implies the alarm appears to function ok.

I checked out the siren and found a wire (12v) had broken off the connector. I fixed this and thought that had solved the problem. But no.

I'm about to buy a new siren but thought I'd just check to see if anyone has experienced the same problem.

I have searched various alarm related threads and it appears the best thing I can do with the Foxguard is to bin it. In the interest of time (not to mention insurance!!) I thought I'd fix this and look around for a suitable replacement at my leisure.

If it flashes the lights when the alarm is triggered, operates the central locking if it connected then this would indicate there is nothing wrong with the alarm other than the siren packing up. Contrary to what a lot of people who do not know say, Foxguards were no worse than any other alarm of its time. Foxguards were killed off when Toad bought them out, but you may be able to buy spares from here:

Hope this helps,

Ivan,

Thanks for that. Just spoken to Bridgewater Electronics who were very helpful. They were very keen to help me find the fault rather than just sell me some bits which might fix it.

Cheers,

Chris
