Chimaera 500 Question?
Discussion
Mine's 340BHP according to the owners book - which I believe is the same as the Griff. the TVRCC Berkshire site lists details & specs for all the TVR's (www.tvrcc-berks.co.uk )

would be nice wouldnt it
TVR used to quote 340 for the 500 (same engine in Griff and Chim of course, units built at Coventry and shipped to Blackpool for install and only 1 spec of 500 engine). They revised this to 320 later on, perhaps to make the speed 6 engine more attractive, who knows. I don't think this coincided with any real changes - perhaps they were just getting embarrassed about differential between claimed and real output!

Thanks.
As explained in the bible, the 320 bhp spec was an ECU mod to improve the low speed driveability introduced in 1997 ish. However and this is a big but, there is quite a variation in power output anyway so really this is nothing to worry about. My 320 bhp spec Griff had a lot more grunt than my 340 bhp spec predecessor.
I would save your money etc unless you want to get the engine tuned/set up.

I had a 4.0 chim for 2 yrs. Its very very fast. I then upgraded to the 5.0. if you want to know the difference, Ask my internal organs. They're all in different places to where they should be. I'm actualy typing this with my knob and pinky finger ( which one's which? ) Be warned !
Bhp, bah. You should see the fun I have when I pick my nose lad.

Cheers Rob, great post, by the way your car looks fine in the pic, what's your cleaning routine like?
Cheers Dave, yours is shiny too
Its just a sesh with autoglym every 2 weeks. Also,(you may find this wierd) I earth the car with a bit of metal pole connection wheel to ground !! Seems to stop all that dust clinging to the body cause its got all static charge in it after you've given it some elbow grease! Dont forget to remove pole when you've finished. Pistonheads car cleaning tips eh
Don't get too hung up about the bhp figure. TVR tend to measure it with the engine sitting on a bench and nothing that might sap the power connected to it (you know, like pumps, gearboxes, etc.)
The real world figure is far less than 320/340 but don't get upset. Fortunately the performance figures are fairly representative and that's the main thing. Unless it's a bragging contest down the pub, in which case it's 320/340bhp.
