its sunny, its hot....whats the problem!

there seem to be loads on PH (mine included!)

i thought that the market would be very good around this time of year? but it seems there are far more sellers than buyers.

Aw, don't.
I want a Chim, but can't afford one for a few more months.
There look to be some great cars about for the sort of money I wanna spend, and I bet they'll all be gone by the time I've sorted my money out
Things were made worse by popping along to Castle Combe on Sunday and seeing all the Tivs. Also met wolosp (Hi!)..... want one more than ever now!

It's not only Chims, had an add now in the classifieds and E&M for my MX5 (don't start, just don't bl*ddy start!) for about 4 months now. Not a nibble.
FFS it's a great buy. I'm loathed to give it away it's been a magic little car.
Perhaps we could advertise as a His 'n' Hers job lot!

I haven't seen your advert - in fact I've only just found this place and have only looked at adverts in AutoTrader before. They seem over-priced to the tune of about 20%.

Did you see the Jason Dawe article in this weeks Sunday Times? It's a guide to buying a used Griff, and the black book prices were all *way* below what people seem to want for them in AT.

Regards,
Chris.

Perhaps its because of a bit of an economic downturn generally - people don`t seem to be quite so confident. The housing market is going a bit flat and that gives a clue I think.

I certainly saw it. For what it's worth, you'll get much more detailed advice about buying a used Griff on here, and probably someone with a bit of specific knowledge to go with you to look at one. And if you can find a good one for the prices he was suggesting, let me know - I'll be there with my cheque book (probably half an hour after Jamer's bought it ). The free market says that an item is worth what people are willing to pay for it. And people are willing to pay for good Griffs right now, so in that respect he was off the pace IMHO - he said about £15k IIRC; if the prices in AT are a couple higher than that, they they're probably about right for the current market.

I don't know why Chims are moving so slowly at the moment, but it might possibly be partly because they are being adversely hit by the demand for Griffs. It's a shame because my first TVR was a Chimaera, and it was a lovely car, people are really missing out on a fantastic experience.

Ah, but I *never* pay asking price, I'd haggle 10-20% off ;-)

16,999 ono, to pricey?

seems daft to go to a dealer and pay 1.5-2.5k extra!

well i have been looking for about a month now for a chimaera, admitidly not in the price range above 12.5k and most were not well prepared for sale which to me means alot as first impressions do count, one was a 93 very well presented by a lady owner for 11900, and one was a 97 for 12k but high milage 88500, and in the end i settled for a 94 with 59k on the clock and all the big bits replaced ,in black in loveley cond and well looked after but only half hide interior but looked good ,so we bought it today cos it was right price and well presented though blacks not my favorite colour , and it was for sale on here for about two hours.....

LOL - Ditto ... laying here with lappy in bed. Wifey's snoring her head off and it's too hot to sleep!

Trying to come up with enough reasons why she should spend some of her inheritance on a toy for "us". ;-)

Then you wouldn't get a good Griffith in today's market. Haven't looked in the last couple of weeks but they have been selling within 2-3 hours (yes hours) of going on PH; the ones in Sprint have gone within a couple of days. Dealers have a queue of people waiting to buy them, some are prepared to pay more than the asking price to secure a sale. So you could try haggling, but my guess is that unless there's something wrong with the car (and I've even heard of a poor one going for well in excess of what you're quoting), you'd be told to sod off and they'd sell it to someone else, regardless of what the Sunday Times says.

Seller's market atm; haggling beyond the odd £250 is really pointless.
