Just done nearly 3000 miles in my Chimaera to Corsica. Only one problem was fuse went for a cooling fan. Some big queues on autoroute and high temps in Corsica - car managed it all. great holiday but car was the star and the French loved it.

Glad to hear you had no problems(ish) for so many miles, won't bother asking if you had a good time, 3000 miles driving across europe in a TVR - no need.

Planning a trip myself but keep putting it off, still have nagging doubts. Must admit if I was heading towards a long autoroute queue in the kind of temperatures they are averaging over there at present I would crap myself. Probably a daft question but do you have any idea what sort of fuel consumption you averaged, 1997 450 I pressume? Did you find super unleaded ok or did you use normal unleaded and if so did you notice any difference?

Great posts, it's time we went on the offensive with some positives - mine has only been off the road twice in 2 years, MOT & service.

Nearly all petrol stations in france (that are a decent size, not little village type ones) have 98RON at most pumps. Availability is much better than in the UK.

Ivan,
Don't know about fuel consumption as never worry about it! No 98 fuel in Corsica but ran well on 95. In France most places had 98 but no Shell garage I found had Optimax. Don't worry about car just do it. No cameras and saw only 4 police on bikes. 2 miles from Newhaven coming back, first speed camera!

I drove Ruby to the south of Holland and back 2 summers ago. I had her thoroughly checked out before I left. I carried all the necessary things: spare bulbs, oil, water, steering fluid, and some maps! We had a great time, the temp needle never went past 90, and the fans worked every time. I would do it again without hesitation. The look of awe and wonderment on people's faces alone is worth the mileage! They are fab cars and love to be driven!! GO FOR IT!!

Anyone seen the car for sale? A 4.5 with 88500 miles up?

I think this rather suggests the old maxim about 'use it or lose it' or something similar.

When you look at (admittedly gorgeous) 308 and 328 Fezzas for mid 20 to high 30Ks, the plethora of Cerbies in the high teen to mid 20Ks look like utterly unbelievable value.

Now then, what exactly are we all waiting for?
