The cigar lighter socket in my 98 Chim has stopped working. Have tested the socket with other things (including a radar detector ), but none work. Have checked the fuse which is ok, have disassembled the whole thing and put back together (very fiddly) and it still doesn't work. Can these sockets "blow" or is it more likely to be a break in a connection somewhere? If so it means taking the whole lower door panel off which I don't really fancy.

Try earthing it. These are notorious for dodgy earthing - not just Tivs. Take it out and create a 'good' earth manually I bet it works.

Would it not be easier to just check if the middle is live with a circuit tester, if it is you know the problem is the earth.
