Well, I took the plunge on Friday. Bought a 1998 450 Chimaera in Jaguar Antigua Blue. In fact Chim_knee's one to be precise.

Had a couple of sweaty moments on the way home - got stuck in a massive traffic jam, managed to drive straight over a glass bottle (Doh!), and then found the hot-start issue when I switched off to check the tyres (which were all fine, BTW). Luckily, thanks to all on here, I was aware of the issue, but thought I'd better check.

Had a panicked call to Rob Ingelby who had inspected it for me, but needless to say, 5 minutes later, all was well again.

Next, I was off to Wales for a stag do on Saturday - she performed brilliantly, not a glitch all weekend, despite being left out in a damp field all night. In fact, she was the talk of the night (now there's a surprise!). 500 miles in the first 48 hours of ownership - not bad I thought!

I kept it very sensible, only giving it some juice when in a straight line, etc. And obvioisly keeping it legal on the motorways! Had quite a few looks from passers by, and a "wow, nice car!" from a kid. Makes the grin even bigger doesn't it?

So, fingers crossed for no more issues and thanks to all who contribute on here, as I would have been doing my nut on Friday evening stuck around the back of Regents Park. Also thanks to Rob Ingelby who inspected 2 cars for me, and has been very polite when I ring back with "just one more question"!!

Cheers,

Ropey

. . now you can leave Rob alone and post "just another 50 questions" on here!

Glad you got a few miles under the belt - TVRs don't like to sit around. If you can't re-start in the heat - open the bonnet and let that sauna blow out

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of PH and TVR's.
I know I pick up most of my info from PH, although I have to say that Steve's Bible is invaluable in assessing any minor issues.

Anyone know where Robs "find a sports car" website has gone - I can't seem to get into it any more ?

Welcome to Chimaera ownership - I wish you trouble free trundling and many grins .

With problems I usually find searching the forum turns up something relevent, this is a great place for problem solving (with a few herrings).

I'm based over in N1.

Which is great, apart from taking the new car for a quick blast is a complete non-starter, as the traffic and roads don't allow!

Nevermind - did a trip to Ikea yesterday afternoon and she performed admirably. Not only is the boot big enough for golf clubs (I don't play, BTW), but you can get in 1 BBQ, 5 shelves, 2 lights, and a weeks shopping.

Not bad for something that does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds!!
