Does anyone have experience of a Meta alarm on their Chimaera?

The alarm is not working 100% and I need some expert advice and if work is required, I would like it done at a reasonable rate. So far all I have had is a quote of a £50 call out charge before any work would be done.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

Alas they are carp

If they start to play up - the usual remedy is to replace them! (do you have a warranty?).

Is your alarm system just going off? Is it just the horn sounding (wet?). Or is it the whole nine yards - lights and horm whilst driving

Afraid the call-out may just tell you - "Sorry mate - need to replace it!"

Throw it away and get a new one!

If the immobiliser or control unit is faulty, little you can do. Replacement sirens are available. If it won't allow you to start the car then you will need to call someone out to bypass the immobiliser.

Search the archives and you will hear plenty of problems especially as the older Meta alarms are discontinued.

Also covered in the bible.

That makes my day - my bible-bashing and Chimaera ownership has paid off! SHPUB did not contradict anything I said

I have a Meta on mine, works fine, no problems. What exactly is going wrong with yours?

Thanks for the replies so far.

The problem is that the battery went flat and I put it on charge. The alarm doesnt sense the key fob but with the stick I can start and use the car. I cant lock it with the key fob.

I have thought of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to try resetting the alarm.

I know that at some poing I am going to have to bite the bullet and replace the alarm - just wasnt planning on doing it now.

Thanks

Paul

If that is the case then you need to get the key fobs re-synchronised. Talk to a dealer or a Meta alarm specialist.

best advice I can give is ditch it and get a Clifford - not very constructive but will be the best thing you do. Remote will rok, and from miles away, no false alarms and remote boot opening

Just a quick question on this matter....

My alarm arms, diss-arms, locks the doors and everthing but when I set it off by mistake the other day there was no siren? Whats that all about then? Disconnected? Faulty? The immobiliser still works so think I just have a problem with the siren.

Tried the old standby of disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting. Alarm now works as it should and so far so good (touch wood!).

I think I will invest in a new alarm when the bank can afford to spend the money.............

Shortlad - mine does that too - now. That's because I disconnected the sodding thing! The siren started talking to itself the other day and it really SHOUTS at me when when I armed the car. It's now wrapped up in a blanket in a bucket in the garage. I can still hear it now and then. Trying to source a replacement at the mo' but not much luck yet. May have to get an alternative connected up separately - or a new system!.

Cheers Al. I have a META agent trying tomorrow, if no joy I'll try Fernies.

Through a torrid chain of phone calls and e-mails I have discovered The TVR Alarm Man of the South.

He is a specialist on META systems and only works on TVR's and Ferrari's. He does most dealers work for them in the south - particularly changing sirens on TVR's! He is sending me a replacement for mine (they are out of stock at META) and is bringing some more in direct from Italy. He is a Top Guy and the definative META agent in the South for TVR. His name is Carl, mobile: 07720-723407.
