So having got extensions on the Clutch and Brake pedal the next one to be sorted is the Accelerator. On the Early Chimaera (mine is 1993) I can now confirm this isnt properly possible.

Having had the pedal off the bracketry in the footwell, there is no way to change the pivot point to move the pedal, or indeed a way to move the cable stop assembly at the top of the pedal. Also forget "adjusting" it at the engine end, as you can adjust off about an inch here, but if your accelerator cable is anything like mine, this will simply remove the slack.

There is only one method I can see, and that is to remove the pedal from the car, 2x14mm spanners required for this and ideally that small Sprite creature from the adverts to do it for you. Then undo the cable from the top of the pedal somehow.. I dont know if it just slots into a uniform groove, or threads into a hole in the top with a slot to enable the cable to go through (any answers really appreciated as in the end I just said factory and left it and gave up). Once the pedal is removed, place the top section above the pivot in a vice, and carefully add a small bend into it (has to be above or you change the angle of the pedal plate) to change the pedal position down below... I think this would be a bit of trial and error, but in theory (which I will test when I know how the remove the cable from the pedal) it should work.

Cheers,
Matt.

The cable goes into a keyhole slot at the top of the pedal. When you adjust the cable at the engine end, this moves the throttle pedal up quite a long way (it does move the pedal, not just taking up slack) but if you use this to adjust the pedal too high the cable will be kinked and soon break by the top of the pedal - also there's a limit to how far you can adjust the throttle up. Bending the pedal up looks like the easiest way, as long as you don't need to undo it later. Rather than taking the pedal off, I'd try putting a couple of pairs of Steelsons on the bar and bend it in situ. Not sure how easy this will be, but if it doesn't work you can always take the pedal off and do it properly?

Be careful not to get stuck upside down with your head under the pedals! (only half joking)

@ GreenV8s.. sadly the engine end adjustment only moved the pedal 1".. not enough at all I'm afriad... thanks for the thought on the stilsons, I gave it a go with a large mole grip and all I ended up doing was scratching the pedal about, I can't generate enought force to bend it while upside down in the footwell. Thanks for the note on the keyhole slot, I thought it might have been, accordingly I'm glad I didn't try and yank the cable end out too hard.

@mark.S. Not really worth it as I'd have to remove the old pedal anyway to fit, so I might as well just bend the one I have, thanks for the thought though.

@ simpo... err thanks.

Cheers
Matt.

It may be different on earlier cars, but on my '99 Griffith you could move the bracket in the footwell that held the cable, thus moving the pedal.

The bracket was bolted into slots that allowed movement.

Hope this works for you.

Mike.

The easiest way to do this is spend the money on the Leven extended pedal set. You get a new throttle arm and 3 ally pedals.

I've bought these and chnaged them myslef and now have 3 fully adjustable pedals. They look cool as well.

This is no easy task to comlete but I did so that means anyone can. Follow the detailed instructions and phone the nice chaps at Leven if you get stuck. Be very prepared to swear for England, cut your hands and spend a couple of hours upside down in your footwell.

You will have endless adjustment when they are fitted even the gap between the pedals!

I did it as I'm a shortlad! and felt I was stitting too close to the steering wheel. That said some people fit them just so they can get the best setup on the pedals.

Well worth the money.

Hi Mike, this slot sadly wasn't on the earlier cars, just a single hole for the bolt.

Cheers,
Matt.
