Distributor Price

My 95 M Chim started to to die when hot snd only start when cold. Now it doesn't start at all. It's at a Performace car centre now and they said the dizzy needs a refurb. They can't refurb it as they can't get hold of the correct amplifier. Is this a Rover part? He tells me not and the TVR dizzy is £450!!, anyone any idea's?
It is almost certainly the ignition amplifier not the distributor. Just a lttle electronic gizmo screwed to the side of the dizzy, that drives the coil. They tend to suffer from the heat and fail intermittantly. Get your garage to read the part number off the module or take it round your local motorfactor and match it. Only costs a few quid, change it in five minutes, job done.

Yes and no Pete. Some dizzys have the amp mounted on the plenum and not on the dizzy. Same Lucas Range Rover part but it comes in two versions with different sets of connectors so make sure that either the right one is obtained or the Lucas connector conversion kit is bought.
To be honest, it does sound like someone not quite understanding the problem and I would go to a TVR or V8 specialist.

Dizzy's need care. If a Dizzy needs "refurb" this could be a dead amp AND wear in the dizzy. Amps have beeen covered, but a worn dizzy will give bad scatter, creating bad tick-over, erratic running and both pre-ignition together & over heating - (ignition trigger point keeps changing).
Shirely Dizzy's were "tuned" on the advancement springs according to what TVR Power did to the engines on initial build ?? Therefore, a "Range Rover" dizzy won't have the correct advancement ?? Just being helpful??
