I have a 4ltr Chim and I am about to replace my rear tyres and have been looking for a harder wearing tyre. I know of a 5ltr Chim running on Michelin Pilot HX's but these don't appear to be Z rated how would this affect my insurance?

The honest answer is to ask the insurance company - and get a written reply.

Personally, I'd stick to what it came with and buy more Z rated tyres!

Are you sure that you are driving the correct car? You could fit a V rated tyre but you would have to show that it was suitable for the use to which the car was being put if anything went wrong. Have a trawl through the tyre threads and you'll see that people find Avon ZZ1s impossible to wear out and they are Z rated. Grip may be reduced though.

and what grip would that be? aren't Avons teflon coated?

If you're currently using SO2s it might be wwrth trying SO3s (unless you need the extra grip) as they are standard fitment, Z rated and last longer than SO2s. Not as grippy though - check tyre threads for more info.
