The calipers and carriers are the ones from a Granada Cosworth - the ones with the casting stamps 888 & 887.
I got the calipers and some braided hoses from e-bay, but I got all the rest of the parts (discs and pads) from buypartsby - I got EBC redstuff pads front and rear. The fronts were the ones for the calipers - so Granada Cosworth front pads.
I left the rear discs standard and just upgraded to the braided hoses and EBC redstuff pads from buypartsby.
Good luck with the conversion

Hi,
I can't find any callipers of Ebay - any ideas where to source? Bit annoying that nowhere seems to have them! smile

I'm pretty sure the calipers with 887 and 888 on them were also fitted to some mondeos, poss the V6.

Sourced a set of fairly rough looking calipers from eBay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... ) so they should be on their way - plan is to assemble all the bits I need at a leisurely pace and spend the afternoon drinking mugs of tea over at a mates whilst fitting them one Saturday.

Has anyone used these guys - http://www.biggred.co.uk/caliperpricing.html - before for refurbing calipers? I was going to do them myself but I guess it's "safer" to get a company that know what they're doing to do them. Anyone got any other recommendations for people they have used?

Only other questions on this are relating to fitting the carriers to the existing locations on the front uprights...

Firstly, the mounting holes are drilled out a bit more to accept the new mounting bolts - does this reduce the flange around the mounting hole significantly enough to affect it's integrity?

Secondly, the O.P. (AC Bilko) says "Fit your new carriers, use spacers/shims between the carriers and the uprights (where the carriers bolt on) to centralise the carriers with the disc." - are there any specifics or recomendations for what to use here of are we just looking at padding out using washers?

Cheers

Phil

Eyup!

I'll let someone else grab the calipers given that I already got a set (albeit scabby) and stick with "Plan B" of getting them professionally refurbed, cleaned up and coated. (Plan A of cleaning them up and re-sealing them myself - well - I'm getting old now and a bit of a girl. wink )

How much "padding" was required between the carriers and the uprights on yours? Are we talking a couple of washers or something larger / more substantial?

I've got a set of calipers from a Griff 500 if anyone else is looking to source some. Same sort of money as in the original post and being from a TVR should pose no problems fitting.

what wheels do you have , don`t think 282mm discs will go behind the 15" wheel.i have a cosworth conversion, not sure what they are as i purchased as a kit ,they are 272mm discs.i did not need to do any drilling .
You can get 304mm x 25mm behind a 15 inch wheel with the right fitting kit but its expensive

Hallo Darren,

I can make you up an other kit with the fully recondiotioned calipers in a teflon black coating. Ofcourse with new quality pads and NEW discs and a small spacer to centralise the caliper. The calipers are being refurbished now so if your friend can wait some time. No problem
Let me know

greetings

I got all the discs and pads from www.buypartsby.co.uk (mentioned above)
I am pretty sure that the FR discs are 283mm vented discs from a 2.0 Sierra Cosworth '86-'93 (and several others) - I think that the code was SG2536.
I got the EBC pads for the Granada Cosworth that the calipers I had came from....
I'll see if I can dig out the paperwork tonight to confirm the codes for you.

Just out of interest there are 2 types of granada cosowrth caliper. The 888/887 one with 12mm mounting that fits the 282 disc, and also a non-888/887 marked one (from very early granadas, 1991 in my case) that has 10mm mounting hole but will only take a 278mm disc. I had to grind a bit of metal from the carrier to make the 282mm disc fit.

I don't think it has been mentioned above but when you remove the caliper carrier bolts they have some blue gunk in the threads - its threadlock and you really need to put some more on the threads when you reassemble it - I think the official Ford advice is that the bolts should be replaced (I think they come with the blue coating on).
I used some loctite 248 and reused the bolts, but take no responsibility bla bla bla

Spot on,often missed that advice always use non-hard setting locking compound on caliper carrier bolts wink

Also....people bang on about "heavy cast iron calipers" and how 4-pot slidng alloy etc etc are superior.
Well, calipers £1 off ebay, Ford OEM pads, £5, discs £55...45% better braking over the 240mm set-up for £61 and an afternoon fitting...can't knock it.

Notice Bilko said "Fit your new carriers, use spacers/shims between the carriers and the uprights (where the carriers bolt on) to centralise the carriers with the disc."

My standard TVR discs aren't quite central in the caliper. Could this cause problems ? I would have thought that the slides would take up the difference ?
