There are 2 different height discs, and the spacers take up the difference depending on which discs are being used...
You're right in that the slides will compensate for a small amount of difference..
But personally I'd prefer the caliper to be central to the disc

I have EBC D150s, fitted which are the 53mm height discs. The disc is sitting too close to the outer half of the caliper. The alternative discs appear to be 58mm, so fitting those would make the problem worse and likely foul the caliper. So I think I have the right discs. What are the spacers. Don't remember seeing any of those when I removed the disc. Are they shims of different thicknesses to get the disc central in the caliper ?
Thanks, Matt
Hi everybody,
I would like to upgrade the brakes on my Chim' 400 HC (1996)
I saw that the good setup is to use seirra cosworth discs and granada calipers.
could you give all the exact parts number that I need ?
the conversion is easy ? (plug and play...)
thank you and sorry for my poor english accent,
Simon, a new happy french owner !

All the info is on the first page including where to buy the discs and part numbers (see AC Bilco's posts). The important thing is to get the calipers with the 887 and 888 cast on them. These are getting harder to find, but they do appear on ebay from time to time. I think it took me a couple of months of searching to finally get a pair.
They look very much like these, but you'd have to check with the seller that they have the all important markings. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/escoer-sierra-cosworth-b...
The job is very easy. IIRC it took about 2 hours for the first one and less than an hour for the second one (once I knew what I was doing).

I use EBC yellow stuff ,no warm up time and good for te odd track day and fast road use..
Hansal supplies a kit eather 278 or 283mm genuine OE discs
Spaces to suit the discs
887 888 calipers and carriers (mine were new)
Decent road use pads and any bolts etc .
There a very good upgrade but prity heavy..

I asked a chap on ebay who was selling the V6 calipers i thought were the ones to supply the numbers (887 and 888)
I was helpful in replying back with...
Hi,
Sorry for teh delay in getting back to you but we have got quite a lot of granada calipers around and we have been busy cleaning them to find the casting numbers. Unfortunately we do not have the numbers you need - the nearest is 869 and 870. Out of interest can you tell me the significance of the casting numbers as there appear to be two different series, some with three numbers like these and some with two (typically 38 for example). Externally they do look identical.
Alas not the ones i want but i was wondering if any others will do the job?

No they are not. You need discs from the 2 wheel / rear wheel drive Cosworth.
These;
