Interesting hearing of your experience. To be honest I've always been put off both buying privately and selling privately due to these issues.

That said. When its finally time for the Chimaera to go we'll probably have to sell it privately or accept a disgraceful trade-in.

I think I'd be tempted to ask prospective purchasers if they'd owned a TVR before...

Once had similar situation with a TR6 and a w*nker - did the same as you M&H and sold it a few days later for much more - sent the w*nker a copy of the receipt.

PS A few years later same car was advertised for twice the price - sent w*nker copy of the ad. Ah those were the days - good sports cars were appreciating assets.

OTOH, when I sold my Sierra Cossie the bloke was as nice as pie. I've even had a couple of emails from him saying how much he likes it...

Well I've just sold my 93 chimaera to said person no problems at all, came round yesterday, took car for a test drive left a deposit picked car up tonight at 7.45 no phone calls since. Seemed to know what he wanted and seemed to loved cars like we all do.
Now I've sold it I am going to get a 5.0 pick it up on Sunday I can't wait.

I am disappointed in the remarks made regarding the sale of M@H's chimaera, but it is very easy for others to comment on a situation they were not party to, and for information to be distorted.

I am now the proud owner of a 93 4.0 Chimaera, bought from a genuine guy in Bedford, collected yesterday. Advert matched the car I saw, he offered all the right information, and I was happy to buy it for a good price.

There is nothing wrong with people having aspirations of owning such a lovely car, and having worked hard for the money to buy it as opposed to having money just handed to me, it will be properly maintained and cherished along with the other classic cars that my father and I have rebuilt from scratch.

When a contract is agreed and completed one should not renege on the done deal IMO.

If perchance colinrob turns up on your door tonight regretting having sold his Chimaera to you and threatening all kinds of 'hard way' action would you hand it back to him a la M@H. Nuff said!

Welcome to Pistonhaeds and TVR ownership Adam - not the best way to introduce yourself to the forum though. Perhaps this was just an unfortunate use of words, but I assume you are not suggesting M@H is not genuine? Rich...

M@H - add obviously mixed you up with M&S and thought you had the same Money Refund Policy.

Good luck - you're behaviour in an awkward situation is a credit to you - A REAL MAN!

Matt, Good luck with the sale of your car, I am sure the right person for it will turn up, it just wasn't for me. The distortion of information remark was aimed at people commenting on the situation they were not present at, and not your description of the vehicle.

I am a member of a couple of car forums, and hope that some of the comments made are not a representation of all TVR owners.

I consider this post to be closed now.

Matt, these things happen. I had exactly the same sort of problem with the first person who agreed to buy my S3. Just put it behind you and move on.

The right buyer WILL appear and everything will work out OK you'll see.

Take it from someone who's a little older and been there before. In the great scheme of things your problems are not significant - they just seem that way at the time. Health & happiness of you and yours is all that matters

I think he meant, he's said all that he feels needs to be said... and that he was not going to part-take in any further discussion... (well that was my understanding).
