does anyone know if the alarm system that is fitted to chim's around 1994 are all the same and if so what type/model are they, also do they meet thatcham cat1 or 2 standards. I need confirmation for my insurance cover.

Not sure if they're all the same, but they're certainly not Thatcham approved. Had a lot of problems with the factory alarm on mine due to some of the electrics being mounted behind the front air dam. The system can get water in it if driving in heavy rain & consequently short out, the water proffing had a lot to desire on mine. Would advise killing the factory system & getting a Thatcham system that arms itself rather than on the central locking. Hope this helps. Ross

To my knowledge they are Cat 2 alarms, Foxguards.. I therefor had to fit a nice Cat 1 to my Chimp when I bought her for Insurance purposes, and I now have two alarms on it !!

WHen i got my 96 chim i phoned tvr and they were very helpfull they dug out the build sheet and told me the full spec of the car and the alarm. The alarm was not full thatcham as they use microwave not ultrasonic sensors, due to it being a soft top. they sent me a letter explaining this for my insurers and they accepted it. G
