Hello

Anybody got any tips on taking the old black heater box inc fan out fitting a new matrix and refitting the black box.

I have taken out the two screws that seem to hold the box in and undone a few of the metal clips holding the pipes in. Can get the box to move a bit but cant get it out.

My current heater matrix seems to be putting a puddle in the passengers side footwell which is why I am replacing it.

Any tips greatfully recieved.

Cheers
Alex

Only got the bible mark 1 and there is not loads of info on heater fitting. Maybe because its a, best left to the experts type of job.

But I have my new matrix so need to fit it myself now really.

Mine started leaking the ususal green fluid, so I bypassed it! Job done, no heater but not the end of the world. To replace, it needs to be cut out, I was quoted 8hrs so I decided to leave it. How much did you pay for the new matrix?

£20 for just the matrix. Its second hand off a 1999 car.

Hahaa Got the black box and heater matrix out. Will fit the next matrix to the box and then into the car next weekend.

Tested the old matrix and it has a leak path specially under pressure which is why the water/antifreeze mix arrived in the footwell..!

Not very scenic the inside of the passengers side footwell when your head is stuck in it for a few hours either...

Must get out more often!

Any chance of a photo showing where the heater box and fan is. on my '96 model it seems impossible to find. The fan on mine is squelling and probably needs to come out!

Just refitted the back heater box with my "new" matrix in it to the car on Sunday. Takes a while to replace the matrix and if you take the black heater box out you have to fiddle and disconnect the cable which diverts the airflow up or down and this can take a while.

bucket; sorry no photos I am afraid. As for the fan itself, well I havent touched that on mine because its not in the black box that contains the heater matrix and the air deflector flap. I believe that the fan is further in, probably behind the wheelarch in the footwell. I am sure that somebody can confirm this. If I remember correctly putting a new fan in is a bit of a pig of a job though I may be wrong. If you want any tips taking the black box which contains the heater matrix and flap diverter out let me know and I will post something up.

Cheers
Alex
