Gotta agree with Jules.

Having recently sold the Chim 450 and bought a Cooper S the entry speeds you can gain with the Cooper S are quite phenomenal.

Sure the TVR will smash past it on any sort of straight but in situations where you are constantly moving the weight around then the Cooper FAR outclasses the TVR.

Personally I think its down to the traction lottery factor, every corner in the slightly damp felt a bit uneasy in the Tiv (and I appreciate it may have been the set up of my car) but on the same roads the Cooper just feels a shed load more 'planted'.

your fiat turbo is faster than a zonda blah blah blah

your big bad wedge was faster than Bluebird and noisier than concorde IIRC. The Caterham could beat sports bikes...

Next local track day, £50 says my bog standard non HC Chimaera will post a better time. Deal?

Hahahahahahahaha!!!! KNEW that was coming!

Fop it, yeah... DEAL!

ok - date to be advised. might even be able to draw a crowd and sell tickets

I agree with Joolz - My Leon Cupra R is far quicker than any TVR I have ever driven on my favourite A roads and closer to the cornering speeds I would achieve in my Caterham than any TVR was!
Although I have only driven a LCR a few times I would suggest that anyone who was familiar with a Tiv would give it a complete spanking

As I like to put my money where my mouth is .....

Any track, any time, any weather Mungo, lets see what gives

Be careful with that - You are not allowed to time on most track days... have to be subtle with it

ok then mate. Will use a stop watch for me and a sundial for your laps

To be frank though, whenever I have driven a TVR on the road, I have never really cared about the cornering speed and balance, I always just enjoy the roar and surge of the V8 on the straight bits!

you can be frank but sounds like you are starting on the excuses, Frank.

Choice of track is also going to play a part isnt it?

Anglesey is going to be a closer run thing than Silverstone for example...

It was the adverse camber on turn two, it doesn't favour a front wheel drive car

I'd have won in the cold/wet/warm/dry/different track (delete as appropriate)

It's harder for a short driver over the blind crest

etc etc

Anglesey will just give Mungo a longer drive back to fully polish off his excuses

Thing is, on a wet corner, I'm sure a fwd scrabble shopping trolley will be quicker, but when you over-accelerate you'll get infuriating, irritating understeer, whereas in a tvr you won't care whether you're losing or not cos you'll be enjoying the oversteer

We've got a Chim and a Leon Cupra R and unfortunately my money's on Mungo. The Leon is a mass-produced parts-bin eurobox ( mainly Audi parts ) but bloody hell they're quick - far better than the replaced Honda Civic Type R - but I still luv the Chim the most

I have been out with mungo in the leon cupra on the twisties before. its a capable car but i personally dont think its quicker than my standard chim. its quicker than most things on the road, granted. For a cheap hatchback thats a fantastic achievement. i think its simply easier to drive FWD hatches on the limit as against RWD powerful cars. Once you find that limit, bye bye Fiat Turbo
