Car had been a getting a little more 'ticky' of late, but nothing that was particularly worrying me. When it went for it's service at Str8six the noise was noted on their report. Jason seemed pretty confident that the cam was on its way, so wanting to keep it in top nick out it came and in with a new one, along with a set of new lifters.

The state of it can be seen below, if I have managed to post the pics correctly. 3 lobes in total were very clearly worn compared to the others and several more are looking a bit rotund. Given the 'good' ones are a probably a bit worn too it adds up to a cam that was in pretty bad shape.

Any way, drove the car back and things are much improved. It's much snappier and free revving with a raspier exhaust note - sounding great again. The low rev shunting that had always been there is now all but gone. There even seems to be more snap crackle and pop on the overrun too.

Got my first-week perma-grin back smile

Can I ask how much and how long it took?

I paid 1300 for parts and fitting including:

Standard 500 high lift cam
16 Hydraulic lifters
Duplex timing chain
New valley gasket and seals
Front cover gasket
Front crank seal
Rocker cover gaskets
Oil + filter
New coolant

Posts I've read on here suggest this sort of money is pricey for a cam replacement. But I'm not sure how much of the above gets done elsewhere. And I'm confident it will be a top job where I took it. RG mentioned a very similar number when I asked them about it. Think they also do sprockets as a matter of course. Str8six said they'd do 'em if necessary.

I'm sure you can get it done cheaper, but as everything, check what you get.

I gave them the car all week as couldn't make it up there midweek. Don't know how many hours but they can certainly do it in a couple of days.
