Anyone got a good link for stainless steel nordlocks? Only place I've found them for order online is http://www.grampianfasteners.com and these characters want £28.32 incl delivery for 16!!! Are they stocked anywhere on the high street?

Guy I spoke to today suggested main problem for bolts undoing is the gaskets bedding in and recommended nipping them up after a few days of use (oh joy).

Just called them up, they don't have any s/s ones in, you must have been in luck. They got zinc plated. Minimum order 200 if they want to get s/s in! Thanks though dogbucket- may go with them.

They do sell small bag quantities (packs of 10 pairs)... bought some a few weeks ago

Try Sarah Edmonds on (0)1980 847129

You need to confim the order by email, they then raise a pro-forma invoice that can be paid by card.

Ahh sorry, hilton, already placed my order. Thanks for your offer. I'm sure there will be some other takers though....

You got any of these left that you would like to give to a good cause at a reasonable price?

I managed to get the manifolds off with just a 14mm open ended spanner. It was a pig of a job though.
Will be using the nordlock ones when it goes back on.

I am a tool addict so used these 3 babies. got all the bolts out from above.

Snap-on flankdrive plus 14mm SOEXM14 combination wrench - Open end has serrations that grip, not sure any other manufacturers make anything as good really

Snap-on 4 Way Angle Head VSM5214B - good for the lower front one where an open ended is needed

Facom straight ring spanner 59.14x15 - for the other lower ones particularly the back 2.

Going to get the same wrenches and try again. Have removed the passenger side manifold but having problems with the drivers side. Especially 1 bolt on the underside that has no clearance for a ring spanner and not enough purchase with the open ended I have.

Would be amazing if I can get all the bolts out from above, I can't even see them all from above smile

This sort of thing, grind some, bend some. Grinding the flanks off really helps. The ARP bolts and Nordlock washers are easier when you reassemble.

ETA, the spanner on the left of the second photo gets the bolt you mention. (Drivers side second from front IIRC). I leave that one till last as you have to move the manifold away from the head as you go or the bolt hits the mani as you screw it out.

That's exactly the one where I got stuck. Only so much lying on my back trying to find the gaps for my hands to go through that I'm willing to do in a day. Did not even get to the ones on the back underside of the manifold. From underneath the car it looks like would need to remove the starter motor to get to them so if can do from above would be great.

Every weekend is a learning experience with this car so far....

Set of S spaners from Machine Mart for underneath bolts. 14mm handy. 9/16 no longer available. Short 1/4 in ratchet for rear bolts. Soak in WD40 or diesel overnight first. Racetech for new steel bolts and washer kits, cheap. Ssame as original TVR, lasted me 50K miles. Nip them up after a short hot run. Manifold to Y piece can be a problem. Can be done without straps. Spend has some good advice on screw torque, talk! hehe

One of the two above the starter can be reached from above, the other from under the car, I put one arm up and over the starter from gearbox side(sort of James Herriot style) and the other arm under from in front. You are working blind but with both hands you can locate the bolt and undo the little blighter. Watch out for arcing the starter feed though, done that a few times, battery disconnected is a good option.

That rear bolt on the underside is the only one I have left to remove now. Try as I might today I just could not get a spanner onto it. Will have another bash at it this weekend.

Looks like would be much easier to take the starter motor off to access it. Any pitfalls in doing that?
