Another chassis galvanised
Discussion
Well done looks a fine job,it will look great when finished. I am doing some work to my 400 over the winter and considering galvanising the chassis. I did a total restoration on a S1 some years back but did not galvanise, my question's are, how did you get the powder coating off? I borrowed a shot blaster the last time and did it myself and swore I'd never do it again. and second what size of holes do I need to drill?
Hi there, thanks, thats an easy one ... drill 5mm holes and talk to Phil Robinson at Surface Processing Ltd. www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk
Some money later (worth EVERY penny) it will look like this...
...then you can galv it. Its looking like I'm going to powder coat mine too, galv is a little agricultural looking and it's an extra layer
Cheers,
Sam

I'm sure this is the answer to all our problems. Well, the answer to the problems of the later cars. I've just bought a 1990 450SE Wedge & the chassis is virtually unmarked apart froma few spots on the outriggers. The powder coating on the 80's Wedges was ffaaaarr superior to the later stuff & is still almost perfect.
Would this apply to an S series car too? I've got a 1989 S and I'm just a wee bit worried about the chassis when I finally get a look underneath....dbv8 said:
I had a quick look but couldnt find if you said how much the galvanising process cost.
Ive just been quoted £250 from Pillar-Wedge near Rochdale.
They also do delivery of £50 each way from Barrow (about 100 miles).
Does this sound like a good price?
Wow ... maybe not ... McArthur in Bristol charged £87, inc VATIve just been quoted £250 from Pillar-Wedge near Rochdale.

Having said that I paid a lot to have everything acid dipped first to remove the paint which McArthurs dip would not do. So if the £250 covers that too then it's very good.
