My interior light has just winked at me all the way home, coming on at random intervals for random periods.
I seem to be able to persuade it to switch off again by tapping the drivers door with my elbow, but this could, and probably is, just coincidence!
I checked the door switches when I got home and they seem fine, and I can't persuade the interior light to come on by tapping/gently thumping the outside of the door(s)..... any ideas?

Cheers,

Karl

I would check that you have the "high tech" bit of old rubber on the door that takes up the gap between the door and the switch. If its there, make it bigger, i had to.

Well... I did think it was flirting with me to go a little faster, but I ruled that out due to feeling like that whenever the engine is running.....

Ah...... I remembered something about little rubber pads, and so checked both doors for them, and neither door has any trace of little rubber feet..... so that'll be it then. I'll stick a couple of bits of rubber on there later in the week with a little araldite

Thanks,

Karl

OK.... weird one this.... just popped out to put the bins out and the indicators on the Chim were flashing. They'd flash for a few, then pause, then flash some more. The alarm hasn't gone off audibly, and they stopped when I disarmed/unlocked the car and haven't restarted as yet.....

..any ideas welcomed..

Karl

...oh, and having searched the archives, the alarm went mental a few weeks ago and has been replaced... I have new key fobs etc, so am assuming that teh siren, control box, all of it has been replaced...

ok.... just stuck new little rubber feet on the doors....

whilst the passenger side door switch looks fine, the drivers door switch has the signs of a little tin worm, and appears to be leaking a little water. are these door switches easily obtainable? are they a standard item I could get from a motor factors, or do they need to be obtained from somewhere special?
I assume they simply unscrew, and swap the connections on the back?

Cheers PH,

Karl

My switches are just held in with a single self-tapping screw. Undo that and all that's required to remove the switch is to coax the terminals out of the hole in the bodywork. They're just very seriously shielded lucas terminals from memory. The switch itself is just be a metal ring with a spring-loaded T-bar that makes the circuit, again from memory. I did wonders to mine with a steel brush - just got rid of the corrosion on the metal ring and all was well again. Having said that, I think that it now needs doing again, so...

After cleaning it Karl, brush some Copper-slip grease on it. Problem could be that there's not a lot of metal left to make a good contact, so don't go too mad with wire brush (a small brass one is less damaging). So you may need a new one (halfords maybe!), but grease it as well!!

Oh, and after remove securing screw don't try and "yank" it out, the hole is just big enough and you may leave the "wire" behind, which is a b*?t*h to get at !!
