Ok, planning on a 2 week european trip in the chim, what spare parts would be suggested in addition to the mandatory throttle cable?

Where are you going Phil? You lucky Bu$$er

We went to Lille (admittedly only for a week) and I took a tow rope, fan belt, bulbs, fuses, silicon lube, adjustable spanner, mole wrench, a few screwdrivers and the RAC card. It all fits behind the spare so no wasted space, just remember you are going to Europe not Outer Mongolia, most places have garages and most people speak English and if push comes to shove most bits are either Land Rover or Ford.
I don't subscribe to packing the garage and making the wife follow me round in a train/plane/taxi. It's 2 weeks that's all if your car is breaking down at less than 2 week intervals I wouldn't take it

Just get in it and go. Have fun, and enjoy being stared at for your car rather than your quirky looks

There's a good section in the bible on this so I'd check that out. Personally, I have some oil, 40 amp fuses (as they are not that common), accelerator cable, the bible, get-you-home foam (some people will state that the space saver is better but you can't drive that far on it), a torch and a foot-pump.

Have a great time!

Hi mate, the plan is after Le Mans to keep heading South

Through the pyranees and down to Barcelona. Then head west across Spain and then follow the West coast of France back up to Blighty

Not a cheap holiday, but something I have always fancied doing - a european roadtrip in a V8 english car. Love Le Mans to bits, so it will be a great start to a great holiday me thinks

Will be fully AA'ed up but thought I would take a few bits and bobs. I know what you are saying about 2 weeks without breaking down, but I dont often put on 2000 miles in 2 weeks in 40C temperatures

Took my Chim to France in September last year 1500 miles in two weeks and she never missed a heartbeat.
Basically took a similar array of spares as .Mark.

I think one of the most important things to remember is to get the weight distribution of booze sorted for the return journey home. OH

Hi Shnozz - Sounds like a great trip

agree with what the others have said - we went on a 2000mile 2 week trip last september and took a throttle cable, some tyreweld, some oil a spare set of keys and a AA card - even then i had to keep my shoe requirements to a bare mimimum

We topped up the oil a little (just to justify taking it) and didnt need any other spares

add to that a fuel pump relay.a duff one ruined my day out once, luckily in this country.they cost just £7.50 from your local bosch agent and take up very little room.never leave home without one now.

If your car's due for a service, get it done at least two weeks before you leave...in case something's not quite right after the service.
If you're travelling light, make a note of the fan belt part number for your engine (I understand there's different types). I'd also take a bunch of tie-wraps and radiator hose repair tape....and a torch.

that would be superb cheers Tony. I havent even looked at how to fit a new cabel in the chim. Last did it in the S and no special tools required, aside from scraped fingers same as all Tiv repairs.

forgot to say - the initial plan was just to stick you in the boot as the mobile mechanic

Big Al, elephant ears received yesterday, thanks muchly

Dont worry, minimal clothing allowance so I can stock up the wine cellar and bring enough fags so as Gordon Brown wont profit for some time.

Ah yes, the Monaco trip I remember now. Inspiring to hear of these stories and now starting to get excited already. So if you were required to keep shoes to a minimum, I trust you didnt let shillers take his weekend pink stilletos?

Pack a couple of 100A fuse links too. Mine went on the autoroute between Calais and Boulogne and I had to be taken home on a flatbed.

Hi Shnozz. If you let me know when you are going, you can always stop off for an overnight at our place near Limoges, if I am there. Always got a good selection of booze in stock, and there are some very good driving roads around.

That is a fantastic offer. I am currently working out the route on map point and will see how it fits in. When are you planning on being there? Straight after le mans?

BTW - nice chim in your profile. I enquired about that one too back before i bought mine in August. Lovely colour and pleased to hear its turned out to be a good 'un.

Scnozz - More than welcome, house is undergoing renovation, so you would have to 'rough it' a bit, but it is fantastic over there. Going over end of May for about 4 weeks, so let me know if you fancy a stop off.
