As our 500 is living outside until I find time to build another garage it has got a bit damp inside of late. I've tried to take it out as often as possible to warm it through and dry it out but it hasn't been completely successful.

So, i had an idea yesterday...

I've bought a Dehumidifier from B&Q, they do one for £79 and it fits beautifully on the rear shelf, so far it's taken about 3/4 of a litre out of the car in 18hrs, this morning both the rear screen and inside winscreen were bone dry, so I'm well pleased, considering it's not working at it's optimum as it's pretty cold out there. i'm considering putting a fan heater in there to raise the ambient temp until it's got most of the damp out of the carpets.

Thought this might be of use to some other PHs who's cars live outside on the drive.

I've also found a 12V one that I'm ordering to leave in the car full time.

I'd be interested in details of the 12v item! I've just spent about 4-5 hours with the sikaflex and resealed around the brake resevoir and cables, the bottom of the windscreen, and around the rear bumber strip.....

...also got about 3 good coats of thompsons on the hood. it's just drizzled a little, but I'm hoping it was dry enough to not be affected toooo much!

....so if that little lot was successful, I'd like to dry it out and keep it dry

Here you go m8, I haven't ordered one yet, so I can't say how efficient it'll be but considering the money we throw at these cars it's got to be worth a go...

yeah, sorry changed my posting name...

getting on great with it... really enjoying it.
had the alarm failure problem, but that was sorted under warranty. had a new stereo put in it (Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB) which is great
....just (gradually) solving the little leaks.... but they're just a niggle in the grand scheme of things. From quizzing people on here I'm happy that it *is* possible to get them dry, so its just a case of working my way through the thing with the sikaflex/silicon! ... oh, and liberal coatings of Thompsons

mentioned to Lynn that there was a spare slot with Mark Adams in Uxbridge, expecting to get shot down in flames.... but she said she'd like to get it done before next winter as a little of Mark's time can get it generally a little smoother, and less "jumpy/twitchy" when cold.... (clearly the subliminal messaging works ) I explained that this would be anywhere from £500 up, and probably nearer £1k by the time you have RR time, Mark's time, and bits and bobs, and she was still OK. so it might go see Mark later in then year once we've saved up the money.......

How about you? Getting a little damp whilst sat outside eh?

edited to add: O/T but the GT6 looks like it might need a new overdrive that another story though....

Yep, water's been getting in down the side of the O/S B Post, Just like the Spitfire

Haven't had any real problems with ours other than getting a few things sorted out back in Dec at Austec, things like New Rad, and 4 wheel alignment - the £1200 bill was a bit of a suprise but it does feel 110% better now. Just sorting out which cam I'm going to upgrade to in the next month or so, as it's a little down on power as shown on the RR graph.

Just keeping my finger's crossed for some good weather this summer now.

Booking it into the EVO track day at Brands on the GP circuit in May. - Can't wait.

thats where mine gets wet. have towels behind the seats while I track it down. hopefully thompsons will solve it, as I've araldited the velcro strips back to the car and can't see where else it might be getting in. at least you don't have to worry about the floorpan rusting in the chim like you do in the spit!

not thinking of changing the cam in ours (4.0 HC) but am considering saving for a Mark Adams/RR session....

WARNING! Don't forget guy's, If you using an extension lead / coil make sure it's unwound.

Coiled leads can get extremely hot and there is a possibility of them bursting into flames!

Gratuitous "oh "

Did that unwound-melty-extension-lead-thingy once in the flat, just plugged an iron into one that was only half unwound..........................black melted plastic and a wasted extension lead later (and no harm done) !!!
