Morning all,

This happened a couple of weeks ago, but I keep forgetting to fix it, until the next time I go to get in the car!

The button under the door mirror (driver's side) has stopped working. I'm hoping it's a loose connection.

So, to check, I'm guessing that I need to get in behind the glass. Question is, how do you get the mirror off? Bible mentions something about a little tab?? Can anyone explain a bit more clearly? Also, is this something I'll need to replace once I get the mirror off. Don't want to get it off, and then not be able to re-attach!

Lastly, is there anywhere else that the connection could have come loose?

Many thanks guys and gals!

Has it just gone totally dead or was it intermittent?

I have same age - and found I had to spray lotsa WD-40 behind the glass to clean things.

Meanwhile, it could be a cable problem (pain!)

It was intermittent, but has now died completely! I'm hoping the plug has just become detached behind the glass.

(Fingers crossed!)

Getting the glass out is easy (but get ready to catch the glass - you don't want 7 years bad luck!).

Move the mirror to the maximum up position (so when you look in it when driving all you see is sky).
Look up under the middle of the bottom of the mirror and you will see a little black tag (about 3 or 3 mm long), push this to the right. It is actually attached to a ring that locks the mirror in at four points so it actually moves round slightly rather than across. It should move round by about 10 to 15mm. I used a 3mm alan key to do mine. (Be ready to catch the mirror. In the bible it says use a peice of tape to hold it in place).
The mirror will not either drop out or you will have to gently prise it out (hence using the alan key).
When it comes out you will see the locking ring on the back of the mirror. The locking device is held to the back of the mirror with double sided padded tape.
When you go to put it back make sure that you move the locking ring so that all the openings are lined up, gently push the mirror into the holder (a little wiggle helps to get it back) then rotate the tab back. Make sure that you gently try to prise the mirror out once it is back in place to check that it is back properly and all four lugs have engaged properly.

Many thanks Chimyellow. I shall give that a go - sounds fairly straightforward. Just have to see if the connection behind is simple too!
