pre-cats out cost me £50 at RVT but then he had the manifold off anyway for other reasons and was fitting stainless straight-throughs at the time.

I'm a little confused as to what options there is when it comes to changing the exhaust on the chim 400,

I have a really good performance car centre only a few miles away from me and they make custom exhaust systems, very good custom exhausts

I just have a few questions,
1) Would it be better to get a complete exhaust made?
2) If not then can you have the pre-cats removed as well as the centre silencer removed and still pass an MOT?
3) If no to that question then which is better to do for a better noise?

I would be looking to get a louder and better noise, I heard a video on you tube of a 400hc with the the centre silencer removed and it sounded awesome just like I wanted, something else to not I'm not really looking for more performance, however looking of all the posts I don't want to lose any ethier

Please help me out

Cheers Brett

I have been looking at exhaust noise on my 400, I like noise, but the simple fact is, TVR have gone with a good mid range system. If you have bigger pipes, the gasses flow slower, reducing power, if you have a smaller pipe, the gasses move quicker, but suffer more back pressure, reducing power. A straight through system will sound great, but hardly any difference in HP. Just enjoy what you have and occationally remind 90s Porsche owners, that your car is quicker and cost a lot less.

Collectors too big, I had precats taken out and 'non-reversal cones' fitted by Tim @ ACT. Helps scavenging and helps exhaust speed.

Playing with the exhaust will simply change the note/loudness and not give you any extra power on its own.

End of story.
