Hi Guys,

I needed to re-stick the mirror glass back into my drivers side mirror today, upon removing the glass part there is a heater matrix on the back of it with two cables wired into the mirror housing. But.. i have no extra switches inside the car..

It's a 93 4.0L does anybody else have heated mirrors and if so where's the on/off switch please!

Cheers

You do, its controlled by the heater...

If the heater is on, so are the mirrors...

Plotless is that the heater as in if the blower fan is on - or if the heater dial is set across to hot rather than cold?

I noticed the wires on mine recently whilst I had the glass out to try and re-centre it..... a search of the archives gave 4 or 5 different answers on the "when do they come on" question.... so are they activated in different ways on different age cars (and depending on who built the car on which day )??

Mines a 96/P 4.0HC if that matters.....

Cheers,

Karl

No special switch. They will come on usually with the ignition or not or when the blower is switched on depending on etc etc etc etc.

I seem to remember that you can feel that the mirror glass even feels a little warm if you touch it a few minutes ater starting. The heater turns off after -- what, Steve -- five or ten minutes?

According to the hand book, the heated mirrors come for the first ten mins when the ignition is switched on.

Thanks Edward that explains why they were on even when the heaters were off.

however, if you open the car door and close it again before those 10 mins have elapsed, the electric heaters on my mirrors switch off!! How bizzare is that??

I'm sure I read somewhere that that happens. Best not to turn the car on then get out to scrape the windscreen then!

I noticed this too when my nearside wing mirror had to be dismantled and refitted after it seized up and the 'stalk' subsequently broke and remained attached only by the wires! Because of the lack of switches in the Chim I assumed that the mirrors probably heated up automatically upon ignition. I kept forgetting to check each time if this was indeed the case especially as it is garaged and I never have to clear the windows of frost!
