I bought my 98 Chimaera 450 2 weeks ago so you can understand the joyous time I am going through. However, the experience is somewhat tainted by what I imagine to be a burning oil smell in the cockpit. Presumably this is coming from the engine and may just be oil on the engine. I will have this steam cleaned but wondered if anyone has found this and discovered it to be anything more serious, eg manifold, exhaust etc. Hey, maybe this is normal. I,ve never owned a ragtop before. Any comments really appreciated.
Was the engine bay cleaned or the interior cleaned prior to you buying it....I found that when the engine bay is cleaned with special "stuff" this smell comes into the cabin and can smell similar to oil...just a thought..
Hi,
No, doesn't look like much cleaning has gone on in the engine bay for long time. Thanks for suggestion though.
Does it have PAS?
If so check the hose directly beneath the pump.
It tends to weap & drip oil onto the exhaust manifold. At one point mine was that bad I had smoke coming out the headlamps!
Easy cure though - big screwdriver on the jubilee clip

Thanks Nick. It does have pas so I'll check as soon as I get it back later this afternoon. It's in for starter motor replacement.
