It's 30 years since I had my 4/4 2 seater. My wife used it as her daily car and we had a lot of fun in it.

I'm now feeling the urge for another but keep looking at 4 seaters. I don't need 4 seats but just think they look better than the 2 seater.

Are there any reason not to go for a 4 seater?

Not a fan personally. I think the additional seats ruin the lines and balance of what is otherwise a perfect and timeless design.

This was how I used to feel but as the years have gone by, that ugliness has grown on me.

Each to their own. I did consider one before I bought my first +4, as I had two small children, but quickly decided that I'd rather drive without the children than own what was to my eyes a compromise.

I then sold the +4 and bought a 3 Wheeler so taste is of course entirely subjective smile

I'm a 4/4 owner, but could never consider a 4 seater, they look awful. If they float your boat however, then go for it.

Having owned two traditional two seater Morgans, personally, I think the four seater ones look awful., especially with the hood up.

Sorry.

I think the reason I hated them was because 2 seats is what my brain associates with "normal".

But now, I've been looking at the 4 seater so much that they look normal to me. Better in fact!

I wonder if the longer hood is more of a faff to use and if the sidescreens at the back flap about?

I certainly love the idea of the extra space for luggage for touring and tip runs.

I look at the picture above and think it looks fantastic.

If you like it then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

After two Three Wheelers I decided that, as a dog owner, but with grown up children, the 4 seater would be really practical for all the reasons mentioned, but after buying one, the more I looked at it, especially with the hood up, the moor it looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dam, in fact I christened it 'Hunch' and after only a year, traded it in for the ARP4 I have now, which to my eyes, looks 100% better, and I can still get my two terriers into the back.

However, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm not quite sure of your motives for asking the question. If you like it, get one.

Thanks for resurecting this. I've still not got one yet and I can't recall why I asked the question but it was probably because I was wondering if there's a divide in those who prefer the look of the 4 seater. The consensus seems to be that most will put up with them rather than choose them.

I like estates over saloons/hatchbacks too. In fact if there's an ugly version of a car, I usually prefer that one.

I'm not sure about the more modern 4-seater trads but pre-2000 I prefer them, the 2-seaters look cut-off at the back to me. With the hood down, the 4-seater looks better balanced to my eyes.

Add to that you have a lot of extra storage space, a taller windscreen and the battery under the bonnet. I wouldn't change mine for a 2-seater.

I'll concede that with the hood up it's not so good looking though (but my hood no longer fits anyway).
