Morgan has announced it's to make the stunning-looking AeroMax Coupé, which first emerged in March 2005.

The company reckoned that, following an exhaustive viability study, production is due to start in January 2008. A limited run of just 100 individually numbered coach-built coupés will be constructed at a rate of one to two cars a week, with the final model leaving Morgan's production lines in 2009, its centenary year. Pricing is anticipated to be around £94,000 + VAT and will be supplied strictly on a first come first served basis. All cars will be supplied through dealers.

History

Originally, there was only ever going to be one Aeromax. Commissioned by Prince Eric I. Sturdza, president of Banque Baring Brothers Suisse, it's intended as a comfortable, long distance touring coupé.

Gullwing boot openings, a hardwood and traditional pleated leather interior, and a large flat load area behind the seats were particular requirements. Brightwork features such as the door handles and the door mirrors were created by hand to unique sculptural designs. The split rear window allows easy access from either side to the custom built luggage commissioned from Schedoni of Italy. A substantial chassis beam protects heavy items from moving forwards into the cockpit.

The aluminium chassis has safety features that meet legislated approvals in Europe and the USA, while electronic airbag systems protect the occupants. Sensors are built into each wheel bearing to relay tyre contact information to the engine ECU and the ABS electronic brake control units. The car has reassuring driver features such as air conditioning, tyre pressure and tyre temperature monitoring and cruise control. Even with these features, Morgan claimed the chassis is the lightest V8 production platform in the world.

Morgan's AeroMax Coupé will be (is) a real head turner on the street; on a par with Lambos and Astons (DB9).

My 1962 Plus4, these things, & my wife could all be described the same way.
They are not pretty, they are not beautiful, but they are bloody
gorgeous. What more could you ask for?

What always suprised me about these Moogans is that they look a bit bug eyed and overstyled in pics yet make perfect sense in the flesh and next to other exotica.

Kind of how the Astra always looks stunning in concept pics and is the same boring eurobox in the flesh, yet in reverse.

Audience reaction to the Aero is invariably positive.
Arrived outside a very nice hotel in St Tropez last week and the concierge insisted that he remove the F430 from out the front and park the Aero in it's place. (me smug - absolutely!)

Also caused an accident driving it along the A71 as French RAC bloke was so busy staring at the Aero he drove off the hard shoulder into a ditch leaving him requiring a tow out. That would be an embarrassing call to your boss...

hmmm not made of wood - full Aluminium chassis a la lotus elise. Aeros have some wooden frame on top of this chassis which support non srtuctural body panels - the wood is strong and light, the cars pass stringent crash test requirements yet keep weight to a minimum - all good stuff surely?

I'm trying to like the styling but it still seems something that cruella deville would drive.
Would rather have an aston and even though the morgan is a different style from the norm this does not mean that it is amazingly beautiful.

I like the Aero 8, but it would be vastly improved if they sorted out the comical headlights...

The car has a new front end, not bog eyed and it is these same body panels that will be used on the 8 in future. It is £94k PLUS Vat so that's £110500 ex works delivery will not be until 2008 if you are lucky probably late 2009 early 2010. For the priveledge of waiting you need to place a deposit now of £25k. I think the Aero 8 will be a better buy, will be prettier and it won't have meccano holding the back door in place.

I remember when I first saw this car & thought, WOW, that is a truely stunning car. The ultimate in classic looks with a modern 'retro' twist.

A modern British car that wouldn't look out of place at a Pebble Beach concours is fine by me.

How anyone can not like it is beyond me, it is without doubt one of the the coolest cars around. Imagine pulling up on the gravel drive of a classy country hotel 'black tied' up with a 'looker'on yer arm in that!

£100,000 is a bargain for what will be a piece of motoring history.

And that's comming from a man that drives a 400bhp WRC Focus replica!!!

Lovely that things like this still exist in today's mass manufactured world. Much better than all the so called "premium" stuff. The most beautiful car? Probably not. Character and style? It surely has...

To own and realy want one? I don't know, but it surely is a nice present on the roads, and I surely will look and turn my head to follow the car, its a welcome on the roads!
But I sold my heart to another retro/classic look the Wiesmann GT but the funny thing is they both share BMW engine's and other parts
well done BMW you have direct in house mass produktion cars...and indirekt some beautifull retro looking and special cars where you suply engine's and parts too like the Morgan aero 8 and this one, and the Wiesmann's and the Ascari's and some other low volume cars, even some Ultima's
BMW is doing a great job me thinks...also very smart and can be proud of them selfs to share a bit in carpassion and low volume cars...
