The bottom end is strong , I use the original crank the only issue is main bearing wear and lowering oil pressure at idle over time on any modified engine. There are no tri metal berings available apart from big end which I have made. I think as far as normal use the standard engine lower is ok.

Fantastic conversion, it looks great.

My concern with boosting the MGC was what the underlying engine could take before breaking or wearing excessively. Does boosting require the full bottom end rebuild, i.e. crankshaft balance and coating, new conrods, LP pistons, new cylinders, etc.?

I know the engine's good for at least 200k miles, but that's assuming not a great deal of hard life!

Can't believe I have only just found this thread..

Very interested in this, I have a '68 RS Blue CGT, I bought it last year off eBay and am starting the resto soon once I have my LE out of the way.

Would like to do a few upgrades too, performance, handling etc. Already thinking of a Maniflow exhaust system and the possibility of a triple SU set up. Perhaps you might be able to help Chormy?

No old mans car the C ! lol

By all means drop us a line, I have two C's one track one for touring, also a 63B FIA car well soon to be.

Its not hard to transform the C into a car that can be pushed with predictable handling and the engine just needs to be allowed to breath.

Sorry

will be using it as coffin, later on in life. It will be family heirloom had it since 82.

She's just gone in to have new mains fitted and a few more mods to cooling and oil pressure and a gearbox refresh.

Been trying to get my other C running but after two dead Luminetion units a duff 123tune I have gone back to trying to build a old style dizzy out of bits.

Sorry Chormy, that was directed to the OP, car is now on eBay. Is it the same one that was for sale recently in the MGCC mag?

Have tried replying to your message too, hope it works.

I'm not the OP but yes, sadly I've got to sell it.

A real pain, but we've just, quite unexpectedly, had to spend a pile of cash doing some repairs to the house and funnily enough SWMBO pretty reasonably says it's got to go - on the last in first out rule... ( I do have a couple of other 'projects' lurking around you see!)

A bit gutted, but now I've had one. albeit briefly, I will have another for certain. Great car. I just love the potential to improve it relatively easily.

Just an update on my fuel injected MGC. I thought this morning's snow would be an ideal time to check my fuel map. The car's been on the driveway without a cover, so was thoroughly cold and damp.

It started first time!!! That's got to be a first for an MGC. It passed MOT last week without a hitch, so I'm now back on the road and available for MG meets.

I think a fuel injection conversion is a fantastic route forwards, and would thoroughly recommend. If I were doing this again, I'd probably go with the three Manifold branches, and then put throttle bodies (rather than carbs) on them. One injector per throttle body would make for a very easy installation.

Well done , would be god to have a look at your map, mine would be no use to you. I do agree that EFI has been a good change, i gained 40hp by fitting and tunnig over triple webers.
