How long should a V6 Cam belt last?

On my sons ZS 180 the Cam Belt was done 20,000 miles ago and it has just shredded.

Has anyone had experience with a garage repairing an engine after a similar problem?

I think it still should be under guarantee ??

A local Garage in Exeter.

My sons mate is back off holiday on Wednesday he has the receipt.

Off to Brum tomorrow to pick up a replacement car as I can see this taking time to resolve.

I will get the AA involved when I have the covers off to investigate.

It's 90k or every 5 years, whichever comes first, mines overdue potentially by 5 years! I'd ask them to provide evidence that it was done, I.e. An invoice from the motor factors showing the cambelt kit and any other parts like the water pump ordered around the time your car was in the garage. If they say they can't then the motor factor can, if they still say no then they may have charged you for no work and are liable for the costs. Or it could just be pure bad luck, I'd defiantly find out who made the belt and send it back to the manufacturer and ask for an investigation to be carried out. They will probably be quite keen to see it.
